$17.00-$22.00 per hour, depending on experience Job Description We are looking to hire a dependable Mechanic's Assistant / Fleet Mechanic Helper to support our maintenance department in Clearfield, UT. This is a great opportunity for someone who is mechanically inclined, teachable, hardworking, and interested in building a long-term career around trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and shop operations. Mechanical skills can be taught, but the right mindset matters. We are looking for someone who listens well, communicates clearly, takes pride in their work, and is motivated to learn and grow with the company. This could be a strong fit for someone currently attending a local trade school such as DATC / Davis Technical College who can work full time, or a recent trade school graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in a real fleet maintenance environment. About the Role The Mechanic's Assistant will work closely with the maintenance team to help keep trucks, trailers, and equipment running safely and efficiently. This person will assist with preventive maintenance, basic repairs, shop organization, parts handling, inspections, and general support duties. This is not a lead mechanic role. It is a hands-on support position for someone who wants to learn, take direction, and grow into more responsibility over time. Responsibilities Assist mechanics with preventive maintenance on trucks, trailers, and yard equipment Help with oil changes, fluid checks, greasing, filter changes, inspections, and basic service work Support repairs on roll-off trucks, dump trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and other fleet vehicles Assist with basic mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, brake, and suspension repair tasks under supervision Help maintain PM schedules, work orders, inspection records, parts tracking, and service documentation Keep the shop, tools, parts, and work areas clean, organized, and safe Assist with picking up parts, organizing supplies, and tracking basic maintenance needs Communicate equipment concerns or repair needs to the maintenance team Follow safety procedures when working around trucks, equipment, tools, and an active yard environment Work cooperatively with mechanics, drivers, yard employees, dispatch, and operations staff Support the maintenance team with general shop duties as needed Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have: Strong comprehension and listening skills A positive attitude and strong work ethic Self-motivation and initiative Strong organizational skills Dependability and good attendance Ability to follow instructions and ask good questions A team-first mindset A willingness to learn and grow within the company Respect for tools, equipment, safety, and the people around them Pride in doing the job right Experience We're Open To Mechanical experience is helpful, but not required for the right person.
