Heavy Equipment Mechanic Hampton Roads Connector Partners - 3.2 Norfolk, VA Job Details 15 hours ago Benefits AD&D insurance Paid holidays Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Employee assistance program Vision insurance Life insurance Qualifications Outdoor work Safety regulations Driver's License Construction Full Job Description The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of Dragados, VINCI, and Flatiron has been selected to construct the $3.3bn Design Build project -the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45' diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2025. Driver will use a company vehicle with emergency flashing lights. Duties include assisting all deliveries to ensure they are transported safely, monitor loads during the switching of lanes, bridge crossings, on and off highways to and from the job site. Ensure the safety of all loads, driver, and everyone else on the road. Maintain specified distance between escort vehicle and semi-trucks, to provide warning to other motorists. Communicates by two-way radio with truck and other drivers to coordinate changes in speed, emergencies or traffic congestion. Must coordinate/communicate with Fleet Manager on all daily deliveries or logistics related concerns. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair issues in diesel engines Diagnose and repair issues with hydraulics, brakes, transmission, steering, and other systems Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment i.e. dozers, excavators, heavy haul trucks, etc. Perform welding or fabrication tasks on equipment as necessary Prepare work orders and order parts Fuel equipment and maintain daily log Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs Perform additional assignments as needed Education/Experience Minimum of 3 - 5 yrs experience in heavy construction industry Diesel technician or mechanic degree a plus Welding experience a plus Must be 18 years in age or older A valid driver's License Strongly prefer candidates with High School Diploma Must pass drug screen Thorough knowledge and working experience of DOT standards and regulations Able to communicate effectively with workers and subcontractors Able to work overtime and be flexible with hours (day/night) Must be able to communicate with others to convey information effectively. Must be accustomed to working outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials Must demonstrate attention to details Must be knowledgeable of safety procedures and practices Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job requires climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, frequent lifting of extensions chutes, stretching, sitting/driving, shifting gears, and covering/uncovering load when applicable. Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. May require sitting for extended periods of time. Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to focus. Able to climb in and out of truck 3-4 steps (elevated 4+ feet into cab). (Could be in and out of truck 20-30 times per day). Must be able to exert 10-20 lbs. constantly to move objects, 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally.
