Job Title:
Appliance Technician Job Description The Appliance Technician installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC systems, hood systems, refrigeration systems, and food service equipment in active retail and food service environments. This role supports new equipment rollouts for menu changes, ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently, and completes all work to high quality standards while accurately documenting service activities. Responsibilities Install and troubleshoot mechanical equipment, including refrigeration units, HVAC units, ductwork, food service equipment, hood systems, and shelving according to established action plans and quality standards. Balance HVAC systems, fryer hoods, and dishwasher hoods to ensure proper airflow, safety, and performance. Perform preventative maintenance tasks, including basic sanitary cleaning and wipe-down of appliances and food service equipment. Complete accurate paperwork for each assignment, including work orders, labor hours, warranty cards, equipment transfers, and preventative maintenance checklists. Barcode and document equipment to enable tracking of warranties, reliability, maintenance issues, and technical support needs. Use appropriate electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration troubleshooting techniques to diagnose and repair equipment issues in the field. Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, welding tools, and motorized equipment safely and effectively. Adhere to company standards for timeliness, quality, and safety, completing all assigned work in a timely and efficient manner. Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders regarding equipment status, parts needs, and any issues that may impact operations. Follow all applicable safety procedures and guidelines while working in active store environments around customers and staff. Essential Skills High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 2 years of hands-on training experience in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or a related trade when not holding a skilled trade qualification. Proficiency in installing, servicing, and repairing HVAC systems, hood systems, refrigeration equipment, and food service equipment. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills for field service and maintenance work. Experience performing preventative maintenance on appliances, HVAC systems, and food service equipment. Universal EPA 608 certification for handling refrigerants. Valid driver's license for travel between job sites. Ability to use hand tools such as hammers, measuring devices, wrenches, and levels safely and accurately. Ability to use power hand tools such as saws, drill presses, grinders, and sanders. Ability to use pneumatic tools such as compressors, nailers, and staplers. Ability to use welding tools such as torches, plasma cutters, and welders. Ability to operate motorized equipment such as generators, pressure washers, and forklifts. Experience using HVAC gauges and specialized HVAC service equipment. Capability to complete detailed service documentation, including work orders and maintenance checklists. Comfort working in active retail or food service environments while maintaining professionalism and safety. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in building maintenance, general maintenance technician work, or handyman services. Experience with kitchen appliance repair and food appliance repair in commercial settings. Knowledge of refrigeration systems, refrigerants, and refrigeration equipment maintenance. Experience with lighting maintenance and repair. Familiarity with barcode-based equipment tracking and warranty management. Ability to analyze equipment reliability and identify recurring maintenance issues. Strong time management skills to handle a high volume of work and expected overtime. Effective communication skills for interacting with store personnel and internal teams. Commitment to cleanliness and sanitary standards when working on food service equipment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a mobile, field-based role with a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime as needed, and an expectation of approximately 50 hours per week. Technicians travel in their own vehicles within roughly a 1-2 mile radius of Harrisburg, PA, moving between active retail and food service locations. Work takes place in operational stores around customers and hourly staff, requiring consistent professionalism, awareness, and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards. The environment involves frequent use of hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, welding tools, motorized equipment, and specialized HVAC gauges. Technicians work on a variety of HVAC, hood, refrigeration, and food service equipment in back-of-house and mechanical areas, often in conditions that may include noise, temperature variations, and tight spaces. Uniforms, boot allowance, and company-provided tools and supplies support a practical, safety-focused work setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Harrisburg, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
