This position is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of commercial and industrial HVAC&R systems in a secure, high-profile government environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while supporting mission-critical facilities. Responsibilities (include but are not limited to): Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and industrial HVAC&R systems. Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system issues to ensure optimal system performance. Read and interpret commercial blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot BAS/DDC systems, including pneumatic and digital controls. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety standards. Support boiler, chiller, and stationary equipment operations as required. Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including EPA standards. Communicate system conditions, repair needs, and corrective actions to facility staff and non-technical personnel. Maintain accurate service documentation and reports. Perform duties in confined spaces, on rooftops, and in varying environmental conditions. Maintain professionalism and reliability while working in a government and high-security environment.
Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Security Clearance:
Ability to obtain and maintain access to a secure government installation at
San Diego, CA Education and Certifications:
EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (mandatory) NATE, DC3, NIULPE, or state-specific HVAC licensing (highly preferred) Stationary Engineer License (highly preferred) Boiler Operator License (highly preferred)
Experience:
3-5+ years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC&R service Proficiency in reading and interpreting commercial blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics Strong understanding of BAS/DDC systems, including pneumatic and digital controls Additional Requirements Ability to safely lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform duties in extreme temperatures or confined spaces Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical personnel Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Professional demeanor suitable for high-visibility government facilities
