This role requires strong technical ability, clear communication with homeowners, and the ability to work independently while delivering high-quality service. Primary Role The primary role of the Residential HVAC Service Technician is to diagnose, repair, and restore residential HVAC systems to proper operating condition while delivering an exceptional customer experience.
This includes:
  • Accurately diagnosing system issues
  • Performing high-quality repairs
  • Ensuring system safety, reliability, and efficiency
  • Clearly communicating findings and solutions to the homeowner Secondary Role The secondary role of the technician is to identify and communicate opportunities that improve the customer's comfort, efficiency, and system longevity.
This includes:
    Recommending:
    ○ Maintenance plans ○ Indoor air quality solutions ○ System upgrades or replacements
    • Generating qualified leads for system replacements
    • Educating customers—not pressuring—on available options Key Responsibilities Service & Repair
    • Diagnose and repair residential HVAC systems including: ○ Air conditioners ○ Gas furnaces ○ Heat pumps ○ Package units
    • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and airflow issues
    • Perform system performance testing: ○ Temperature split ○ Static pressure ○ Airflow
    • Accurately measure and record: ○ Voltage and amperage (compressor, blower motors) ○ Refrigerant pressures and superheat/subcooling
    • Complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and local codes Maintenance & Inspections
    • Perform seasonal maintenance (cooling & heating tune-ups)
    • Inspect and document: ○ Heat exchangers ○ Evaporator and condenser coils ○ Motors and capacitors ○ Ductwork condition and airflow restrictions
    • Replace filters and educate customers on maintenance plans
    • Provide system condition reports Customer Interaction
    • Clearly explain issues, repair options, and recommendations to homeowners
    • Provide pricing and obtain approval before completing work
    • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times
    • Build trust and long-term customer relationships Sales & Opportunities
    • Identify opportunities for: ○ System replacements ○ Indoor air quality products ○ Maintenance memberships
    • Generate leads for system upgrades
    • Offer solutions based on homeowner needs Documentation & Technology
    • Use mobile software/tablet to: ○ Complete service tickets ○ Upload photos (before/after, components, data plates) ○ Record diagnostics and readings
    • Maintain accurate job records Vehicle & Inventory
    • Maintain a clean, organized service vehicle
    • Keep truck stocked with required parts and materials
    • Track inventory and report shortages Required Qualifications
    • 5+ years of residential HVAC service experience (preferred)
    • EPA Certification (Universal or Type II minimum)
    • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
    • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
    • Ability to work independently Preferred Qualifications
    • NATE Certification (a plus) or HVAC Excellence Certification
    • Experience with: ○ Static pressure and airflow diagnostics ○ Smart thermostats and controls ○ VRF/ Variable Speed Systems
    • OSHA 10 or 30 Safety Certification Skills & Abilities
    • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills
    • Organized and detail-oriented
    • Ability to work in attics, crawlspaces, and varying weather conditions Compensation & Benefits
