HVAC Install and Commissioning Technician

Job Summary R & H Mechanical is hiring a Start-Up & Commissioning Technician to support the final phases of our HVAC and mechanical system installations. This role ensures systems are properly started, tested, balanced, and operating according to design and performance standards before turnover to the customer. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone with strong troubleshooting skills and a solid understanding of HVAC systems and controls. Key Responsibilities Perform equipment start-up and commissioning for HVAC and mechanical systems Conduct functional testing and system verification to ensure proper operation Complete point-to-point checks and sequence of operation testing Troubleshoot and resolve issues with equipment, controls, and wiring Coordinate with project teams to ensure systems meet project specifications Document all start-up procedures, test results, and deficiencies Assist with system balancing, adjustments, and optimization Support customer turnover, including basic system training Respond to warranty and service-related commissioning issues Qualifications 2+ years of experience in HVAC, mechanical systems, or controls Strong understanding of: HVAC equipment (RTUs, boilers, chillers, etc.) Electrical systems and low-voltage controls Ability to read and interpret plans, schematics, and sequences of operation Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites Preferred Qualifications Experience with building automation systems (BAS) Knowledge of commissioning processes or TAB (testing, adjusting, balancing) Technical training or HVAC certification Work Environment Field-based role working on commercial job sites Work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and construction environments
