Lake Forest, Illinois, United States Talascend is currently seeking a Facilities Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Lake Forest, Illinois. Overview This role involves operating, maintaining, and managing all machinery and equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety in a facility environment. The technician will be responsible for performing various maintenance duties and supporting energy conservation initiatives. Responsibilities Be a facilities technician by being responsible for, operate, and maintain in good running order all machinery and equipment as assigned. This includes chillers (centrifugal and screw type), cooling towers, air handling units, variable frequency drives, and building automation systems (pneumatic and direct digital control), electricity and electrical distribution systems, changing ballasts, plumbing and piping systems, internal combustion engines, pumps, air compressors, generators, ice machines, and air-conditioning units.
Perform the responsibilities of a technician as assigned, including the safe, economical operation of the plant and carrying out management's orders in building operation.
Complete work orders as assigned, report progress and completion on the automated work order system.
Ensure employee, student, and visitor safety through procedure compliance, on-site inspection, and training.
Attend training and seminars to enhance your knowledge as an engineer.
Identify energy conservation measures and collaborate with engineering staff to implement improvements.
Participate in reviewing and revising engineering procedures and practices.
Perform all other tasks related to the mission of the organization and the responsibilities of an engineer. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required.
2+ years of experience managing facilities.
Prefer a working knowledge, hands-on experience, or willingness to learn maintenance, operation, and repair of steam boilers, electricity and electrical distribution systems, plumbing and piping systems, internal combustion engines, pumps, air compressors, generators, ice machines, air-conditioning units, chillers (centrifugal and screw type), cooling towers, air handling units, variable frequency drives, and building automation systems (pneumatic and direct digital control).
Prefer a working knowledge of an automated work order system.
Prefer a working knowledge of Building Automation Systems Siemens and Johnson Controls.
Prefer experience in ordering supplies, work order management systems, and proficiency with Word and Excel, especially maintaining complex spreadsheets.
Ability to read and work from blueprints and schematics.
