at Aerotek in McHenry, Illinois, United States Job Description HVAC Service Technician Chicagoland Suburbs Overview We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Commercial HVAC Service Technician to join our team. This role focuses on servicing and maintaining a wide range of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems-including rooftop units, walk-in coolers, freezers, compressors, boilers, and more-primarily for restaurants and commercial clients. Technicians enjoy a high degree of independence: start your day from home, drive directly to your first job, and only occasionally visit the shop. This is a customer-facing role, so professionalism and strong communication skills are essential. Responsibilities Service and maintain rooftop units, compressors, in-line coolers, walk-in coolers, freezers, and boilers. + Utilize a company-provided work truck, stocked with parts and some tools, to travel to job sites. + Provide and utilize personal tools such as vacuum pumps, reclaiming machines, and basic hand tools. + Complete jobs starting from home without the need to report to the shop frequently. + Ensure customer satisfaction through professional presentation and a customer-oriented mindset. + Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours service, particularly for restaurants. + Maintain an organized approach to work, with attention to detail and effective communication. Essential Skills 5+ years of experience in Commercial HVAC service. + 1-3 years of experience in Commercial Refrigeration troubleshooting. + NATE Certification and Universal EPA Certification. + Ability to repair, install, inspect, diagnose, and maintain all parts of HVAC systems. + Proficiency in reading repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and blueprints. + Understanding of safe mechanical practices and HVAC codes and regulations. Expect:
+ Company truck stocked with parts and select tools + Minimal trips to the shop + Average 35 hours per week during slower seasons and 40+ hours during peak periods + Increased workload in the spring as preventative maintenance season ramps up + Consistent work throughout the year
On-Call Schedule:
+ Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with other technicians + Occasional after-hours service calls, primarily for restaurant customers + Most calls occur during the evening, with rare overnight service needs
Tools Required:
Technicians are expected to provide their own essential trade tools, including: + Vacuum pump + Recovery machine + Hand tools + Socket sets + Drill + Refrigeration gauges Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of McHenry, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00
