ABOUT THE ROLE
The Utility Technician is a hands-on support role that keeps our Service and Installation teams running at full speed. Working across the service department, residential installation crews, and the shop, the Utility Technician handles maintenance calls, assists on repairs, delivers parts to active job sites, and refurbishes equipment in-house. This position is ideal for a motivated technician who wants broad exposure to every side of the HVAC trade and a clear path toward advancement into a lead service or installation role.
COMPENSATION
Hourly pay, based on experience and qualifications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Department:
Maintenance Calls:
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on residential and light commercial HVAC systems, including inspecting and cleaning equipment, replacing filters, checking electrical connections and refrigerant levels, verifying proper system operation, and documenting findings for the service department.Overflow Service Calls:
Run service calls during peak demand periods when the primary service team is at capacity, ensuring customers receive timely response and the department maintains its service commitments.- Service Repairs (Pre-Diagnosed): Complete repairs that have already been diagnosed by a senior service technician, including replacing failed components per the work order, testing the system after repair, and confirming proper operation before leaving the job.
- Extra-Man Support on
Service Repairs:
Assist senior service technicians on repairs that require a second set of hands, such as handling heavy equipment, staging tools and materials, and supporting safe work practices on the job site.
Parts Delivery:
Pick up and deliver parts, materials, and equipment to technicians at active job sites so repairs stay on schedule and field technicians remain productive on the job.

In-House Repairs:
Perform shop-based repairs on customer equipment and components, completing work accurately and returning equipment to service-ready condition.
Residential Installation:

Short-Term Installation Projects:
Support residential installation crews on short-duration projects, including setting equipment, assisting with ductwork and line sets, hauling materials, and maintaining a clean, professional job site.
Shop & Office Support:
Equipment Refurbishment:
Inspect, clean, test, and recondition used HVAC equipment in the shop so it can be returned to inventory or service use.Parts Refurbishment:
Evaluate and restore reusable parts and components, helping the company control material costs and keep commonly needed parts on hand.

Recovery Tank Management:
Maintain, track, and manage refrigerant recovery tanks in accordance with EPA Section 608 regulations and company safety procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid HVAC Journeyman's license in good standing.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- EPA Section 608 certification, or willingness to obtain certification within an agreed timeframe.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC systems, hand tools, and safe work practices; trade school or prior field experience preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete work orders accurately, and communicate professionally with customers and coworkers.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and willing to move between service, installation, and shop assignments as daily needs change.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and move heavier equipment with assistance.
- Comfortable working in attics, crawl spaces, basements, rooftops, and mechanical rooms.
- Able to climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and stand for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
