Job Description

About the HVAC Startup Technician Role The HVAC Startup Technician is responsible for testing, inspecting, and commissioning newly installed residential HVAC systems to ensure they operate safely, efficiently, and according to company and manufacturer standards. This role identifies installation deficiencies, performs basic troubleshooting, and verifies systems are ready for homeowner turnover. Success in this position requires strong HVAC knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced residential construction environment. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of five (5) years of residential HVAC installation or service experience. Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Ability to pass a background check and drug screening. Knowledge of residential HVAC systems, controls, and startup procedures. Basic computer and mobile device proficiency. Preferred Qualifications Vocational HVAC training or apprenticeship completion. Journeyman HVAC License. EPA Certification. Experience in residential new construction. Responsibilities Perform startup, testing, and inspection of newly installed residential HVAC systems. Verify proper operation of furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, thermostats, and zoning systems. Complete startup documentation and record equipment information. Identify and communicate installation deficiencies or performance issues. Perform basic troubleshooting and system adjustments. Ensure systems meet company standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable codes. Maintain tools, equipment, and a safe, organized work environment. Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations. Skills Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities. Attention to detail and organizational skills. Effective communication and teamwork. Ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently. Adaptability in a fast-paced construction environment.
