The Prince George's County Office of Central Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a HVAC Technician I/II (Heating VAC Technician 1A) grade A17/19 position, in the Facilities Operation and Management Division . About the Position This is an entry level, skilled and manual work, whereby the incumbent installs, maintains and repairs a variety of heating, cooling, and ventilating (HVAC) systems used within County buildings, offices, and facilities. Work is performed as a member of a crew and is accomplished under close supervision. The incumbent performs routine and less complex assignments and assists with major or complex assignments under the close supervision. Upon the satisfactory completion of the probationary period, the position incumbent may, at the discretion of management, be promoted to the II full performance level. This position may work in various County facilities, including the correctional facility. About the Agency The Office of Central Services is a multifaceted agency of the Prince George's County Government providing government-wide, mission critical support services in the areas of facilities operations and management, building design & construction, real estate services, fleet management, and general services. We make government operations operate better for the government. Examples of Work Installs, repairs and maintains HVAC and refrigeration (domestic and commercial) units in County buildings and structures. Responds to service request to determine appropriation action. Responds and resolves service complaints. Reports routine and emergency HVAC related issues within County buildings. Reviews and completes documentation associated with daily performance. Observes all safety rules and practices as established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), State of Maryland and the County. Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class for work. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED or completion of an apprentice-level Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) vocational training program; and licensed as a HVAC journeyman Possession of a valid journeyman license issued by the Maryland Board of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) Contractors in Maryland. Possession of a valid state issued driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Three (3) years of work experience in the HVAC field or one (1) year of HVAC work experience with satisfactory completion of an accredited HVAC training program. Experience with servicing, maintenance, installing, and repair of HVAC systems (split systems, rooftop units, heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, etc.) Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems, Johnson Controls - Metasys Software, and/or Siemens.

The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31. A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse. Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent. The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services). New employees must enroll in the County's health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date. The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire. After enrolling in the County's benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
