Job Description
Primary functions will be to perform HVAC service and repair work. This will include troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, minor and major repairs. Other duties will include general maintenance and repair of County buildings and their equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. The hiring salary for this position is $50,003 - $68,910 annually ; full salary range for this position is $50,003 - $86,091 annually. Maintains and repairs County buildings including all HVAC systems; A strong background in commercial HVAC repair including boilers, copper pipe brazing and soldering; commercial pump repair & replacement, repair and replacement of various components of differing mechanical equipment as well as computerized control systems;
Will:
Repair, replace, service, troubleshoot a wide range of HVAC systems including electric, gas and oil-fired units, exhaust systems, fuel supply systems associated with the HVAC equipment; Inspect, maintain, perform both minor and major repairs, change filters on the heating and cooling systems in all County buildings; Perform preventative maintenance and inspection of mechanical equipment; Perform other routine maintenance repairs in County facilities as needed; Operate a County vehicle; Order and keep stock of materials used; Help with the snow removal operations at all county buildings; Performs other duties as assigned. Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures; Ability to effectively communicate with other staff and members of the public; Ability to prioritize tasks in order of importance and urgency; Ability to operate a motor vehicle; Ability to possess a valid Maryland drivers license; Basic math skills. Knowledge of mechanical work including HVAC, basic plumbing and basic electrical work; Must be computer literate and be able to learn advanced HVAC control systems programs. High school diploma or G.E.D.; Five years or more of related experience; Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.Additional Requirements:
Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical to determine ability to perform job-related functions; Pass an extensive background investigation; Must have Class II or Universal Certification in HVAC or be able to obtain within 6 months; Will be required to provide on-call emergency services; Must pass a pre-employment drug test.Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work demands occasional strenuous effort. For example, handling of moderately heavy equipment, heavy tools, heavy parts, climbing in and on large equipment or materials of 30 to 100+ pounds. Work may involve risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, constructions sites or machines.
