Maintenance Technician
I - HVAC
SALARY (Non-negotiable)Pay Grade 6$36,982 - $51,064 (2026-2027 salary scale)includes employee benefits package and uniforms
Hours:
40 hours, 12 months, 260 days
Contract Unit:
This position is part of the non-supervisory support services bargaining unit.

ExemptGENERAL FUNCTIONUnder the supervision of the HVAC Foreman, the Maintenance Technician
I - HVAC
maintains refrigeration units, air conditioning units, controls, and associated equipment and systems at an apprentice level.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, refrigeration units, air conditioning systems, and related equipment as a helper. (A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
  • Currently holds, or able to obtain, an EPA-approved Universal CFC Certification License within three (3) months of employment.
  • Must meet the requirements for a State of Maryland HVACR Apprentice License and be able to obtain, if directed to do so.
  • Apprentice knowledge of the common practices, tools, and terminology of the trade.
  • Apprentice knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the trade.
  • Apprentice knowledge of the use and characteristics of refrigeration and air handling equipment and materials.
  • Skilled in the use of tools and equipment associated with the trade.
  • General electrical knowledge and the ability to make wiring connections.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Exhibits proficiency in reading and mathematics skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and blueprints.
  • Possesses good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
  • Can adjust to a flexible work schedule and react to change productively.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Must provide a cellphone for use on the job for which the employee will receive a stipend.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
  • Assumes the responsibility of ordering and maintaining a maintenance inventory on his/her work vehicle (at the supervisor's discretion).
  • Assumes willingness to work beyond an eight-hour (8) day and responds to after-hours emergency calls.
  • Performs related work as required or assigned.
  • Maintains regular on-time attendance.
