HVAC Technician
REPORTS TO
Director of FacilitiesSTATUS:
Non-Exempt, Full-Time, 12 monthsPURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Provide Heating, Ventilation, and Air Condition (HVAC) services in a manner that is reflective of the College's mission. Responsible for ensuring that College indoor environments remain comfortable, safe, and energy efficient. HVAC responsibilities include identifying, repairing, and/or replacing HVAC equipment and parts; installing, diagnosing, repairing, upgrading, and performing preventative maintenance of College HVAC equipment; and ensuring HVAC tools and materials (e.g., multimeters, pressure gauges, etc.) are available, maintained, and properly inventoried. Respond to work orders, complete reports, and provide follow-up communication regarding actions taken. Assist other Facilities areas as needed.JOB FUNCTIONS
Repair and installation of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in student residential environments, academic buildings, and athletic facilities. This may include installing pipes, motors, pumps, thermostats, compressors, control boards, electrical components, exhaust fans, ventilation systems, etc. and charging systems with refrigerant. Perform seasonal HVAC duties to ensure systems are running at peak efficiency. This includes preventative maintenance such as cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, replacing filters, greasing parts, etc. Coordinate and lead the semiannual process of switching the campus rom heat to cool in the spring and from cool to heat in the fall. Use computer software and other means to diagnose HVAC issues and prioritize repair schedules. This includes responding to alerts and alarms, diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults, and using HVAC tools to test system components such as compressors, capacitors, blowers, boilers, roof top units (RTU) and air handing units (AHU). Handle refrigerants according to environmental and safety regulations and ensure all gas and electrical connections meet industry standards and code. Assist Director with budget planning for HVAC needs and implementation of comprehensive preventative and deferred maintenance plans.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written. Knowledge of basic computer operations including email, and basic software applications. Demonstrate proficiency in all the job functions listed above. Ability to work well both individually and as part of a team. Ability to complete projects and tasks without constant supervision. CurrentHVAC EPA 608
certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalency. 3 years of relevant HVAC experience. Must have a current valid driver's license. Electrical experience required with electrical certification/license preferred.WORKING CONDITIONS
Mobility sufficient to move about, stand, and/or sit for extended periods of time, and access all locations of the campus. Must be able to control and manipulate objects, tools, materials, and equipment used on the job. Flexibility and strength to reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the phone. Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations and on the phone. Ability to see and read a computer screen, equipment used in the work environment, instructional materials, training materials, directions, rules policies, calendars, agendas, manuals, and other printed materials. Physical strength and ability to push, pull, squat, twist, turn, and lift and carry bulky objects of up to 50 pounds without assistance.
