POSITION TITLE
HVAC TechnicianFLSA EXEMPTION STATUS

16JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the HVAC Technician will install, maintain, and repair ventilation, air conditioning and environmental control systems.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Install, maintain and repair a variety of HVAC components and equipment, i.e. compressors, duct work, control circuits, distribution systems, etc., through various methods of skilled work. Perform preventive maintenance, i.e. Clean, lubricate and service, through inspection and testing of heating refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and systems to ensure proper functioning, including hot water and forced air heating and ventilation systems. Effectively communicate with internal stakeholders, i.e. school administration, regarding work order requests, preventive maintenance and repairs. Adjust and balance distribution systems to achieve maximum energy efficiency.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Accurately maintain records, as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law. Perform repairs with accurate troubleshooting on systems such as but not limited to electrical control circuits and thermostats. Install, repair or replace joints or lengths of pipe and duct in distribution systems. Document work order requests with appropriate information regarding time, materials and resolution. Install, replace and repair valves, fans, motors, gaskets, filters, belts, fuses, controls, thermostats, switches, gauges, tubing, pipes and wiring. Check accuracy and calibrate electrical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems. Install small reciprocal and scroll type compressors. Cut threads, assemble pipe and tubing to components of HVAC systems. Effectively operate recycle and recovery equipment. Assist with all types of HVAC equipment changeouts. Perform skilled electrical maintenance in the installation, calibration, alteration and repair of HVAC equipment and components. Perform other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Minimum Qualifications Valid North Carolina driver's license Minimum 3 years of commercial refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS Ability to work with diverse individuals and/or group.CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing in stressful and emergency situations.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment:
Medium/Heavy Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 60 lbs., prolonged standing, frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.Vision:
Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices.Environmental Conditions:
Varies from indoor exposure to outside weather conditions. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud.Hazards:
Uneven walking/working surfaces, communicable diseases, cleaning chemicals, lifting/carrying of materials, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
