Job Description

The Senior HVAC Mechanic is responsible for the proper operation, maintenance and repair of Industrial boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment and all associated equipment to ensure all heating, air conditioning systems and support systems are functioning properly. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs according to established Engineering practices on all heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment to provide an environment that is conducive to the well-being of patients, hospital staff and visitors. Makes adjustments to the environmental control system as necessary to maintain an appropriate environment. At times, assists in the design and/or alterations of H.V.A.C. systems.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operates, maintains, repairs, test, record readings and monitors all boilers, chillers, heating and air conditioning equipment, and all ventilation and support systems. Assures that boilers, chillers, support systems and related equipment are operating properly. Makes connections, adjustments and/or repairs as necessary. 2. Completes all necessary repairs on assigned equipment in an expeditious manner to minimize any disruptions that may occur which could affect the well-being of patients and the staff's ability to provide required services. 3. Evaluates problems that maybe encountered to determine their seriousness and corrects or reports to engineering supervisor. 4. Investigates, evaluates and remedies environmental problems to provide a healthful and pleasant environment for patient, staff and visitors. 5. Performs scheduled maintenance on assigned equipment utilizing current professional standards and provides legible written and electronic documentation as to what was done according to established Engineering procedures. 6. Submits material requisitions and/or appropriate information according to established Engineering procedures for the repair or replacement of assigned equipment. 7. Provides in-service training to hospital staff on the proper use and care of selected equipment such as Boiler, Chiller, HVAC equipment and building automation controls. 8. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. 9. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and Environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. 10. Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in Interactions with all customers (internal and external). 11. Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety. 12. Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient Use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices 13. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code. 14. Other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Requires standing for up to eight (8) hours per day and walking for up to four (4) hours per day, sitting for extended periods of up to two hours, lifting loads of up to 60 lbs., pushing loads of up to 300 lbs., bending, crouching, reaching, twisting, climbing (stairs and ladder), and manual dexterity to make equipment repairs. Seeing as it relates to normal vision, and hearing as it relates to normal hearing.
EDUCATION
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent certificate (G.E.D.).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Must have a minimum of four (4) year's experience through on the job training in firing high-pressure boilers, and four (4) year's experience with industrial air conditioning and heating systems.
