EPA Universal Certification Full Job Description Key Responsibilities Execute Installations:
Install complex HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ventilation units, and ductwork, ensuring compliance with blueprints, specifications, and local codes. Diagnose and Repair:
Troubleshoot and repair HVAC system issues, such as faulty wiring, refrigerant leaks, or malfunctioning components, using diagnostic tools. Modify Systems:
Retrofit or upgrade existing HVAC systems to improve efficiency, integrate smart thermostats, or meet new building requirements. Ensure Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to safety standards, handle refrigerants safely, and ensure installations meet local building codes and regulations. Mentor and Train:
Guide entry-level installers or apprentices, providing on-the-job training and ensuring quality workmanship. Document Work:
Maintain detailed records of installations, repairs, and maintenance; complete paperwork for warranties, inspections, or client billing. Requirements and Skills Education:
High school diploma or GED; completion of an HVAC vocational program or apprenticeship required. Experience:
3-5+ years of hands-on HVAC installation experience, with proven expertise in residential, commercial, or industrial systems. Skills:
Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, proficiency with diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, manifold gauges), ability to read and interpret blueprints, and strong problem-solving skills. Physical Fitness:
Ability to lift 50-100 pounds, work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and handle exposure to extreme temperatures or heights. Soft Skills:
Leadership, clear communication, customer service skills, and the ability to work independently or in a team. Certifications:
EPA Section 608 certification (Type I, II, or Universal) and A2L is required; NATE certification, HVAC Excellence, or similar credentials preferred. OSHA 10 or 30 safety certification is a plus. Other:
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required; may require a clean background check or drug test. Work Environment The role involves exposure to noise, dust, extreme temperatures, and potentially hazardous materials like refrigerants or electrical components.
