Job Description
Position Summary The General Mechanic is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of all University mechanical operating systems. While this role monitors and supports HVAC systems, it also provides broad mechanical support across campus, including maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, and repairs for a wide range of mechanical infrastructure. Principal Accountabilities Specific Duties:
Operate, monitor, and inspect all University mechanical systems, including HVAC, electromechanical, pneumatic, DDC controls, plumbing, hydronic, and utility systems. Provide broad mechanical support across all campus buildings, ensuring safe and reliable operation of all mechanical equipment. Respond to mechanical-related service requests from students, faculty, and staff. Perform preventive maintenance routines on mechanical, HVAC, and building equipment. Document procedures, work activities, daily events, system logs, and service records. Communicate noteworthy issues promptly to the Assistant Director-MEP and/or HVAC Lead. Perform minor repairs on mechanical systems, pumps, compressors, boilers, heating systems, and related components. Maintain mechanical rooms, boiler rooms, and chiller rooms, including system checks for pressure, temperature, chemical treatment, and equipment performance. Meet with and direct contractors for kitchen hoods, grease traps, vent ductwork, and other mechanical infrastructure. Support troubleshooting of thermostats, low-voltage controls, and building automation components. Assist in monitoring and operation of Building Automation Systems, including Schneider EcoStruxure, Continuum, and Siemens platforms. Support campus-wide utility systems including chilled water, hydronic heating, air compressors, and pumps. Qualifications Vocational/Trade school training or equivalent experience. Minimum 3 years of experience as a general maintenance mechanic or in mechanical/HVAC maintenance. Knowledge of building mechanical systems, utilities, shutoff valves, and system operation. Skilled in preventive maintenance procedures for pumps, air compressors, chilled water systems, hydronic heating, and boiler systems. Ability to troubleshoot low-voltage controls, thermostats, and mechanical components. Familiarity with Building Automation Systems such as Schneider EcoStruxure, Continuum, and Siemens. Strong communication skills and ability to document work clearly. Ability to work independently and respond effectively to campus mechanical needs. Work Hours This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with excellent benefits . The standard schedule for the 40-hour position is Sunday through Thursday, 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The University will also consider a reduced work schedule of no fewer than 25 hours per week (with full benefits).Open Until Filled:
