Job Title:
Traveling Lead HVAC Installer Job Description This role targets experienced HVAC technicians with 5-8 years of hands-on experience who are confident working independently and stepping into a lead role when needed. You will install, service, and maintain commercial and residential HVAC systems, with a strong focus on split systems, refrigeration, and related mechanical and electrical components. The position involves both installation and troubleshooting work in a construction and renovation environment, with regular travel supported by a generous per diem package. Responsibilities Install and service commercial and residential HVAC split systems in accordance with project specifications and industry standards. Rig, mount, and securely connect fan coil units, including units weighing up to 1,000 pounds, using appropriate tools, equipment, and safety practices. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain refrigeration systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation. Perform HVAC installation tasks including layout, assembly, and connection of mechanical components, ductwork, and related equipment. Apply basic sheet metal skills to fabricate, modify, and install ductwork and fittings as needed for HVAC installations. Work on commercial HVAC systems and equipment, including split units, ensuring proper startup, testing, and commissioning. Use electrical knowledge to assist with wiring, terminations, and basic electrical diagnostics related to HVAC systems. Follow OSHA 10 safety principles and company safety policies while working on active construction and renovation sites. Collaborate with field teams and other trades on school renovation projects to coordinate work and maintain project schedules. Work independently with minimal supervision, taking ownership of tasks and providing guidance to less experienced team members when required. Essential Skills 5-8 years of experience as an HVAC technician, with a focus on installation and service. Proven experience installing and servicing commercial and residential HVAC split systems. Ability to rig, mount, and connect fan coil units up to 1,000 pounds safely and efficiently. Hands-on experience troubleshooting and maintaining refrigeration systems. Basic knowledge of sheet metal work, including fabrication and installation of ductwork and related components. Experience working with commercial HVAC systems and equipment, including split systems and split units. Strong HVAC installation background, including mechanical and construction-related tasks. Familiarity with air conditioning systems and their installation, operation, and maintenance. Basic electrical understanding is sufficient to support HVAC installation and troubleshooting. Understanding of OSHA 10 safety practices and commitment to working safely on job sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications EPA Certification (preferred). EPA Universal Certification (preferred). OSHA 10 Certification (preferred). Additional electrical experience or training related to HVAC systems. Experience working on school renovation or similar commercial construction projects. The schedule typically follows a travel rotation from Wednesday to Saturday, with some weeks allowing an earlier return home by Thursday. A generous per diem supports lodging, meals, and daily expenses while traveling. You will work on varied sites across the Southeast, adapting to different facility conditions and weather while adhering to safety and construction standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Jefferson City, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $32.00/hr.
