For more information, please visit our website at: www.aggregatetrades.com HVAC/R Service Tech Job Summary The Traveling Refrigeration Technician is responsible for surveys, audits, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial refrigeration and HVAC/R systems, This role supports commercial facilities by ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of refrigeration and mechanical systems. The position requires strong technical expertise, compliance with safety standards, and the ability to perform field service work independently or as part of a team. This position does not have direct supervisor responsibilities. HVAC/R Duties & Responsibilities Installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs commercial refrigeration and HVAC/R systems, including ammonia refrigeration units. Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues using schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic tools. Performs routine preventive maintenance and system inspections to prevent equipment failure. Tests electrical systems and components to ensure proper operation and compliance with specifications. Performs field service tasks including equipment repair, brazing, welding, and component replacement. Uses electrical testing tools, including ohmmeters, to identify system faults. Maintains accurate service records, work orders, and maintenance documentation. Operates company vehicles safely to transport tools, parts, and equipment between job sites. Collaborates with team members on system modifications and efficiency improvements. Ensures compliance with all safety standards, environmental regulations, and applicable plumbing, electrical, and refrigerant codes. Must own and maintain basic hand tools. Performs other duties as required and assigned. HVAC/R Service Tech Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience as a commercial refrigeration or HVAC/R technician (6 years preferred) Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Experience servicing commercial refrigeration equipment; ammonia experience preferred. Ability to read and interpret HVAC/R schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals. Proficiency with electrical testing equipment. Basic brazing and welding skills preferred. Knowledge of plumbing systems and general construction practices. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Willingness to travel up to 100% as required. HVAC/R Education and Experience Journeyman's license and commercial refrigeration experience required. A minimum of 5 years of experience as a commercial refrigeration or HVAC/R technician (6 years preferred). Experience operating a forklift and scissor lift strongly preferred. Ability to be trained and certified within 90 days required. Experience operating non-DOT work vehicles strongly preferred, up to and including a 26-foot box truck, Valid state driver's license required. HVAC/R Service Tech Physical Requirements Must be able to discern color to identify color-coded wiring. Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding. Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds and maneuver heavy equipment using specialized equipment. Ability to use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel to use specialized electrical tools, operate equipment, and install wires and cable through conduit. Work Environment & Working Conditions Exposure to electrical and construction site hazards. Ability to work in changing environments and must be able to work out of town for up to 3-4 weeks while completing projects and work assignments. Must be able to travel for long distances in planes and/or work vehicles. Working hours vary based on project needs (weekends and holidays, extended shifts/12-hour days, etc.) Aggregate Trades and all affiliated companies are an EOE and E-Verify Employer.
