Garland Heating & Air Conditioning About Us Garland Heating & Air Conditioning is a third-generation, family-owned mechanical contractor serving Texas for more than 73 years. We specialize in complex commercial, industrial, and institutional HVAC and mechanical systems, delivering high-quality solutions for municipalities, water and wastewater treatment facilities, manufacturing plants, industrial campuses, healthcare facilities, and commercial buildings. As we continue to expand our industrial mechanical division, we are seeking an experienced Operations Manager - Industrial HVAC & Mechanical Construction to lead field operations, project execution, workforce development, and strategic growth initiatives across Texas. This is a senior leadership position for a proven HVAC construction professional who has advanced through the ranks of the industry and possesses extensive experience managing large-scale industrial mechanical projects. Position Summary The Operations Manager will provide overall leadership and oversight for all industrial HVAC and mechanical construction operations. This individual will be responsible for ensuring projects are executed safely, profitably, on schedule, and in accordance with contract documents, specifications, and company standards. The ideal candidate will bring 15+ years of progressive HVAC construction experience , including leadership roles such as Superintendent, General Superintendent, Project Manager, Operations Manager, or Mechanical Construction Executive. A strong background in industrial HVAC systems, central plants, chillers, chilled water systems, process piping, wastewater treatment facilities, and municipal infrastructure projects is highly preferred. The successful candidate must possess exceptional leadership skills, technical expertise, financial acumen, and the ability to effectively manage multiple high-value projects simultaneously. Key Responsibilities/Operational Leadership Lead and oversee all industrial HVAC and mechanical construction operations throughout Texas. Develop and execute operational strategies that improve productivity, profitability, safety, and customer satisfaction. Drive accountability across project management, field operations, procurement, and scheduling functions. Establish and maintain operational standards, best practices, and performance metrics. Participate in executive-level planning, forecasting, staffing, and growth initiatives. Industrial HVAC & Mechanical Expertise Serve as the company's technical leader for industrial HVAC and mechanical systems. Review and interpret complex mechanical plans, specifications, and contract documents, including Division 23 and Division 15 requirements. Ensure all installations conform to engineered designs, project specifications, code requirements, and manufacturer recommendations.
Provide technical guidance related to:
Central plant systems Chillers and cooling towers Chilled water and condenser water systems Large air handling systems Industrial ventilation systems Process piping systems Water and wastewater treatment facility HVAC systems Building automation and controls integration Collaborate with engineers and owners during design review, value engineering, constructability reviews, and submittal processes. Project & Financial Management Oversee multiple concurrent industrial and commercial mechanical projects ranging from hundreds of thousands to multi-million-dollar contract values. Monitor project schedules, budgets, labor productivity, procurement activities, and project profitability. Identify risks proactively and implement corrective actions before issues impact project performance. Lead project kickoff meetings, progress reviews, forecasting sessions, and closeout activities. Ensure change orders, claims, and contract modifications are properly documented and executed. Team Leadership & Workforce Development Directly manage Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, Sheet Metal crews, Pipefitters, and HVAC technicians. Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing field and management personnel. Conduct performance evaluations and establish clear career development plans. Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement. Ensure workforce certifications, training, and licensing remain current. Safety & Compliance Champion a "Safety First" culture throughout all operations. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and project-specific requirements. Lead safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action programs. Maintain high standards for quality control and workmanship. Technology & Reporting Utilize construction management and project management software to monitor operations and project performance.
Generate executive-level reporting on:
Revenue and profitability Labor productivity Project status Safety performance Resource planning Support continuous process improvements through technology and data-driven decision making. Required Qualifications Minimum 15 years of HVAC and mechanical construction experience . Minimum 10 years in a leadership role managing large-scale commercial or industrial HVAC projects.
Demonstrated experience with:
Industrial HVAC systems Chiller plants Chilled water systems Mechanical piping systems Water and wastewater treatment facilities Municipal infrastructure projects Extensive knowledge of Division 23 mechanical specifications and construction documents. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and field teams simultaneously. Strong understanding of project scheduling, labor planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost controls. Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software platforms. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent industry credentials. OSHA 30 or
OSHA 500
Certification. NATE, TACL, SMACNA, MCA, or other industry-recognized certifications. Experience implementing Lean Construction, Six Sigma, or operational excellence methodologies. Experience managing projects exceeding $10 million in contract value. Strong understanding of Texas building codes, municipal standards, and industrial construction practices. This individual can walk a jobsite, identify issues before they become problems, mentor field leaders, communicate effectively with owners and engineers, and drive successful project outcomes.
