Under close supervision, you'll gain hands-on experience with entry-level tasks while learning to deliver reliable, safe, and efficient service that supports sustainable building performance. Duties and Responsibilities Assist senior technicians with preventive maintenance, filter changes, belt adjustments, cleaning coils, lubricating components, and basic inspections on commercial HVAC equipment (rooftop units, split systems, air handlers, fans, basic controls). Support troubleshooting and repairs under direct guidance, including checking refrigerant levels, tightening connections, replacing minor parts (filters, capacitors, contactors), and assisting with refrigerant recovery/recharge as trained.
Perform general service call support:
prepare tools/parts, document findings, take photos, and complete basic work order entries. Help maintain clean, organized work areas, vehicles, and tools; load/unload equipment and materials as needed. Participate fully in daily safety briefings, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements. Actively learn commercial HVAC systems, codes, EPA regulations, and best practices through on-the-job training, ride-alongs, and assigned coursework. Communicate professionally with customers and team members, reporting observations and asking questions to build knowledge. Supervisory Responsibilities None (entry-level role focused on learning and assisting journeyman and senior technicians).Requirements/Qualifications Experience :
0-2 years in HVAC, mechanical, electrical, facilities maintenance, or related construction/trade field; no prior commercial HVAC experience required—strong mechanical aptitude, eagerness to learn, and positive attitude essential.Education :
High school diploma or GED required; trade school, vocational training, or HVAC certificate a plus (will be supported through company-sponsored programs).Certifications :
Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; EPA Section 608 certification (or willingness to obtain within first 6-12 months) preferred. OSHA 10-hour certification encouraged (company support provided).Physical Demands :
Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.Work Environment/Safety :
Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial settings (indoor/outdoor, rooftops, mechanical rooms, varying weather); exposure to noise, dust, heights, refrigerants, electrical hazards, and extreme temperatures; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, EPA protocols, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all times—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position. Frequent regional travel within assigned market, on-call rotations, and flexible hours (including evenings/weekends) may be required as business needs dictate. Required Skills Basic mechanical/electrical aptitude and tool familiarity (multimeter, gauges, hand tools). Safety awareness, attention to detail, and willingness to follow instructions and learn quickly. Customer service orientation, clear communication, and teamwork. Basic documentation (work orders, photos, notes) and smartphone/tablet proficiency for digital reporting. Valid driver's license; ability to pass background/drug screening and maintain clean driving record.
