Job Summary The HVAC Tech I will perform skilled maintenance, installation, troubleshooting and repairs of equipment such as split system air conditioners, rooftop and package systems, refrigeration, ice machines, exhaust fans, fume hoods, ductwork, and other related university equipment. Coordinate with university personnel on shutdowns for repairs and or replacements. Responds in a timely manner to address temperature issues and occupants' needs in various buildings. Assist with HVAC and mechanical maintenance and repairs as needed. This position may work in or around all weather conditions, extreme temperatures, chemical fumes, standard office conditions, biohazards, chemicals, electrical hazards, and mechanical hazards. Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks Provides recommendations, planning proposals, and technical expertise to the Executive Director of Facilities. Determines the most efficient, cost effective, and reliable operating methodology for the university's HVAC systems and equipment. Evaluates, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces all types of HVAC systems and components. Preforms scheduled maintenance and periodic inspections on HVAC systems. Supports facilities general maintenance activities as needed. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on campus equipment and vehicles. Support and assist with facilities operations as needed. Provides professional verbal and written communication with faculty, staff, and facility residents across the University properties. Remain at location during the emergency. Return immediately after an emergency to relieve those who are assigned to stay. Work at an alternate location if assigned during or after the emergency. Come to work during scheduled time off (vacation) if requested. Other duties as assigned. Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in written form. Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings. Competent with electronic database. Ability to follow and understand electronic schematics. Ability to use a multi meter to diagnose electrical issues. Excellent customer service skills both in person and over the phone. Strong organizational skills. Understanding of operating standard office equipment. Ethical. Able to maintain confidential information. Required Education/Experience High School diploma or equivalent One (1) years' experience in the refrigeration industry. Valid driver's license. Preferred Education/Experience Associate's degree or Certificate of completion of 2-year HVAC/Refrigeration Technician. Three (3) years' experience preferred. Required Certifications/ Licenses EPA Section 608 II certificate required (must obtain within 90 days of hire) EPA Section 608 Universal certificate is preferred.
