Job Description
Description Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks an HVAC Technician to perform work in the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems across College facilities. This position maintains HVAC equipment, chilled and hot water systems, and automated building controls; troubleshoots electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems; operates specialized tools and testing equipment; interprets blueprints; and supports repairs and installations with other trades as needed. This position reports to the Maintenance Specialist 4. This position closes on May 25 , 2026 @ 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Primary Responsibilities Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair HVAC systems, including air handlers, air flow dampers, V-belts, sheaves, pulleys, bearings, and related equipment; Inspect, maintain, and repair plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems, including commercial refrigeration and chilled water systems; Analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical, electronic, and pneumatic control systems, including sensors, actuators, relays, timers, meters, and switches; Fabricate, install, and repair mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic temperature and humidity control systems for HVAC operations; Operate, monitor, and adjust automated building control systems, including DCM Automated Logic Control System, to maintain building environmental conditions; Use fluid and electronic testing and measuring instruments such as manometers, flow meters, voltmeters, ammeters, and potentiometers to diagnose system performance; Operate hand and power tools and fabrication equipment, including welding, soldering, drill presses, grinders, and bandsaws, to complete repairs and installations; Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to support installation, repair, and maintenance work; develop preliminary cost estimates for HVAC installations and repairs; Drive service vehicles as required, and load, unload, and transport materials and supplies; May participate in a rotating standby schedule; assist and coordinate work with other trades personnel; and Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in refrigeration, steamfitter trades or in heating, ventilation and air conditioning; OR Completion of a vocational training certificate from an accredited institution; OR Three (3) years of applicable experience in refrigeration or steamfitter trades or a combination of the two (Vocational or trade school training as a steamfitter or refrigeration mechanic will substitute, year for year, for work experience up to a maximum of two years); AND Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license or ability to obtain one before date of hire.

Terms of Employment This position is a full-time overtime eligible, classified staff position. The schedule for this position after the training period will be Monday through Thursday from 6:30a.m.to 5:00 p.m.; however, must be available to work a flexible schedule when prior notice is given by the College. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including frequent traveling between buildings on campus and driving employer vehicles off and around campus. Duties involve physical strength, agility and endurance to bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, 80 pounds with help from others or by mechanical means and climb a ladder and work from heights no more than 80 feet off the ground. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as standard office equipment and grounds/maintenance equipment. Working Conditions Work environment is performed in multiple locations such as a typical office environment, field and indoor/outdoor settings that includes some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require following safety and driving requirements. There may be exposure to chemical hazards requiring the use of rubber safety gloves and safety glasses as provided. Interruptions occur on a regular basis. There can be exposure to adverse weather conditions and unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust and/or uneven surfaces, while performing the duties of this position.
