Mechanical Technician - Welding / Multi-Craft /
Pneumatics Location:
Birmingham, AL (On-site)

Limited, with occasional support for projects and site installations Position Overview A growing industrial manufacturer is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician with strong welding, multi-craft maintenance, and pneumatic systems experience to support fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and installation of custom industrial equipment. This hands-on role is critical to maintaining equipment reliability, supporting production operations, and ensuring high-quality system builds in both shop and field environments. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex mechanical systems, working with fabrication and maintenance teams, and contributing to custom equipment and industrial process improvements. Core Responsibilities Welding, Fabrication & Mechanical Assembly Interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, schematics, and mechanical layouts Perform MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding on structural components, piping, frames, and equipment assemblies Fabricate, assemble, and modify mechanical systems and production equipment Use hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, grinders, and precision measuring instruments Ensure proper alignment, fit-up, tolerances, and quality standards during fabrication and assembly Multi-Craft Maintenance & Equipment Reliability Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment and machinery Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and basic hydraulic systems Replace bearings, gearboxes, valves, cylinders, belts, chains, seals, and other mechanical components Inspect equipment for wear, leaks, vibration, and operational issues Support plant uptime and continuous improvement initiatives Pneumatics & Industrial Systems Install, troubleshoot, and maintain pneumatic tubing, valves, regulators, actuators, and air systems Read and interpret pneumatic schematics and system layouts Assist with system testing, pressure checks, and operational validation Support integration of pneumatic systems into automated or production equipment Installation, Field Work & Commissioning Assist with equipment installation, teardown, relocation, and startup activities Perform field modifications and repairs as needed during installations Support equipment commissioning, operational testing, and final system validation Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, electrical, and production teams during startup activities Troubleshooting & Repair Diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions in a timely manner Identify root causes of recurring mechanical or pneumatic issues Assist with emergency repairs and production support when required Provide feedback on equipment improvements and maintenance best practices Documentation & Safety Maintain accurate maintenance, repair, and fabrication records Document inspections, parts usage, and completed repairs Follow OSHA regulations, plant safety procedures, and lockout/tagout practices Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment Qualifications Education Technical training, trade school, or equivalent hands-on industrial experience preferred Experience At least 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, welding, fabrication, or multi-craft mechanical work Experience in manufacturing, heavy industrial, processing, or custom equipment environments preferred Technical Skills Strong welding and fabrication abilities Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and pneumatic schematics Experience with industrial mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting Knowledge of pneumatics, power transmission systems, conveyors, pumps, and rotating equipment Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring tools Basic understanding of hydraulics and industrial automation systems is a plus Preferred Background Experience supporting custom machinery, automated equipment, or industrial production systems Familiarity with compressors, air systems, and pneumatic controls Experience working in fast-paced industrial or manufacturing environments Certifications (Preferred) Welding certifications OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Forklift or lift operation certification Work Environment Hands-on role in an industrial shop and manufacturing environment Frequent lifting, welding, fabrication, and equipment maintenance activities Exposure to machinery, compressed air systems, and industrial production equipment Occasional travel for installations and field service support Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $40,000 - $62,000 Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with company match Paid time off Flexible scheduling options Why Join Work on custom industrial equipment and fabrication projects Strong exposure to welding, maintenance, pneumatics, and multi-craft troubleshooting Opportunities for career growth into lead maintenance or technical specialist roles Stable and collaborative environment with a strong project pipeline To apply, send your resume to: PD@Libertyjobs.com Patrick DelGaone #engjobs1776
