In this vital role, you will oversee the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a wide range of heavy equipment, industrial machinery, and vehicle fleets. Your expertise will ensure operational efficiency, safety, and reliability across our facilities. As a leader in the shop, you will mentor junior mechanics, coordinate complex repairs, and uphold the highest standards of workmanship. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your mechanical knowledge and hands-on skills in a fast-paced environment dedicated to excellence. Duties You will perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, farm machinery, industrial equipment, and fleet automotive vehicles, semis and trailers. Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex issues with excavators, cranes, forklifts, container handlers, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, HVAC units, diesel engines, brakes, and electrical systems. Fabricate parts or modify equipment using welding, soldering, power tools, hand tools, and fabrication techniques to meet operational needs. Conduct detailed inspections and repairs on vehicle components including tires, air brakes, steering systems, HVAC systems, and powertrain assemblies. Maintain accurate service records documenting repairs performed, parts used, and maintenance schedules to ensure compliance with safety standards. Coordinate with service technicians for specialized repairs or complex diagnostics requiring advanced expertise. Ensure all work complies with safety protocols and industry regulations while maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Experience Proven mechanic experience with a strong background in heavy equipment operation and repair; dealership experience is highly preferred. Extensive knowledge of automotive diagnostics and repair procedures for various vehicle types including tractor-trailers and farm machinery. Skilled in reading schematics for electrical wiring diagrams and hydraulic systems; capable of troubleshooting complex mechanical issues efficiently. Hands-on experience with welding, fabrication techniques including soldering; familiarity with power tools and hand tools required for assembly and repair tasks. Demonstrated leadership skills as a lead mechanic or service technician; ability to mentor junior team members effectively. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while working in physically demanding environments. We value safety-first practices combined with top-tier craftsmanship—your expertise will make a difference! Monday - Friday 7AM to 4PM, with occasionally longer days as a job requires. There be travel involved and nights away from home. Show up and ready to work at 7AM. The typical duties for this position are to handle service calls of heavy equipment that come into our service manager in a timely and profitable manner, or work on company owned equipment and vehicles in a timely and profitable manner. They must be able to provide photos and detailed descriptions of the repairs needed, repairs completed, etc....to the service manager to write up the invoice or warranty claim. They must be able to diagnose and repair the equipment, fill out work orders fully and neatly, and keep track of the parts used for when we need to bill the customers or apply to an HE #. Required to wear PPE in the yard or on the jobs site (high vis shirts, safety glasses, closed steel or composite toe/sturdy shoes, ear protection, etc....) as required for job you are performing or location you are working. Having your own tools is required and encouraged. Must be able and willing to occasionally work overnight out of town. Or anything your direct supervisor asks you to do, if there is no mechanical work to be done cleaning the yard, cleaning trucks, and organizing yard are all duties you could be assigned. You will also be required to assist in counting inventory as needed. Welding experience is preferred. Subject to change.
Minimum Education Level Required:
The minimum educational requirements for this position are a high school diploma with some college or trade school experience. Basic computer skills in Word, email, Excel, and Internet Explorer are a must. Must be a forklift operator certified and have working knowledge of the equipment we sell.Minimum Experience Required:
The minimum level of experience required is 5 years of experience in a similar position in an environment with heavy equipment.Certification Requirements:
TWIC Card (or able to get one) Forklift Operator Certified Commercial Driver's License (Preferred) Responsibilities as a Driver forHamre:
Clean DMV driving record on file with HR and insurance company. Maintain a professional appearance, clean truck inside and out, properly secure all loads, daily inspection of assigned company truck completed on ELD (looking at tires, blinkers, lights, fluids, etc....), follow rules of the road safely, operation of vehicle safely in all-weather including but not limited to installation of snow chains.PPE Required:
Safety Glasses, Hearing protection, Gloves, Welding protection when welding, High Vis wear or vest, hard hat, & steel or composite toe boots.Pay:
