Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic - Seamer is responsible for maintaining, adjusting, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling Can Seamers (including Angelus and Continental models) to ensure proper quality, efficiency, and uptime. This role also serves as a Line Mechanic for additional equipment throughout the Filling Room and Plant, including fillers, conveyors, cooking tanks, sterilizers, loaders/unloaders, labelers, packers, and palletizers. The position requires expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and steam systems, along with serving as the primary quality authority for seam integrity. Responsibilities include setup, changeovers, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, fabrication, installation, and addressing safety and quality issues.Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform all work safely and in compliance with Food Safety standards, GMPs, and company policies. Set up, start up, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and lubricate: Can Seamers (Angelus 61H, Continental 2003) to proper specifications. Equipment in Filling, Corn Cooking, and Sterilization areas (dumpers, conveyors, dicers, detectors, fillers, tanks, sterilizers, pumps, etc.). Packaging equipment (dryers, x-ray, labelers, case packers, palletizers, etc.). Facilitate onboarding, orientation, and new hire integration to ensure a positive employee integration experience. Conduct seam teardowns every 3 hours using manual and scope methods; complete documentation and take corrective action when required. Perform changeovers (Seamers, Fillers, Empty Can equipment) as needed. Complete overhauls and rebuilds of gearboxes, drives, and related systems. Execute preventive maintenance (PMs), repetitive work orders, and ensure proper documentation via the CMMS system. Support capital projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and equipment modifications. Collaborate with maintenance supervisors, planners, and operations leads to ensure smooth production. Maintain accurate part usage records, coordinate with the Parts Coordinator, and request replacements to sustain inventory. Ensure proper sanitation, debris removal, and cleanup after maintenance work. Train mechanics on Seamer maintenance, seam teardown, and related activities. Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and high lifts (upon certification). Provide clear written and verbal communication. Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT). Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications and Experience:
High school diploma or GED require. Seamer School Training and completion certificates for Angelus 61H and Continental 2003. Minimum 5 years as a Manufacturing Line Mechanic (food industry preferred). At least 5 years' experience with Can Seamers and Fillers (Angelus and Continental). Welding/fabrication experience (3+ years) preferred. Proficiency in seam teardown methods (manual & scope). Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and pump systems. Ability to read mechanical diagrams and manufacturer manuals. LO/TO procedures experience required. Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills in high-speed industrial environments. Electrical knowledge a plus. Forklift/High Lift license a plus. Basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets, CMMS). Flexible to work nights, weekends, and varying shifts based on production needs.Physical Requirements:
Work performed in a manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, temperature changes, and chemicals. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes. Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and manual handling of tools and parts. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on occasion. Willingness and ability to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as needed to support plant operations. Must maintain mental alertness, focus, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Pay:
