Field Service Manager / Service Operations Manager Position Summary The Field Service Installation Mechanic is responsible for the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of industrial machinery and equipment utilized in manufacturing facilities, food processing plants, packing houses, and agricultural operations. This position requires extensive travel and a high level of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting capability while ensuring all work is performed in accordance with engineering drawings, schematics, technical specifications, and company safety standards. The successful candidate must possess strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in field environments while maintaining exceptional customer service standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Installation and Commissioning Perform installation, assembly, startup, and commissioning of industrial machinery and equipment at customer facilities. Ensure all installations conform to engineering drawings, schematics, technical specifications, and customer requirements. Verify proper machine operation and functionality prior to customer acceptance and handover. Perform equipment alignments, adjustments, calibrations, and final operational testing. Mechanical Maintenance and Repair Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and systems including, but not limited to: Conveyors of all types Power transmission systems Direct drive systems Belt-driven systems Chain-driven systems Hydraulic systems Pneumatic systems Electrical systems Repair and replace motors, speed reducers, gearboxes, chain drives, rollers, belt lacing, and conveyor belts utilizing industry standard installation methods including alignment and tensioning procedures. Fabricate, modify, repair, and install parts and components in the field as required to complete installation or service work. Diagnose and repair mechanical failures while minimizing customer downtime. Inspection and Quality Assurance Perform assessments and inspections of equipment following completion of production assembly and system integration prior to shipment. Verify equipment meets design specifications and quality standards. Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions prior to equipment delivery. Equipment Operation and Safety Safely operate forklifts, power tools, hand tools, and industrial maintenance equipment. Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) safely work with machinery and components. Maintain compliance with all company safety policies, customer site safety requirements, and applicable regulations. Participate in safety meetings, training, and job hazard assessments as required. Documentation and Reporting Maintain detailed service records including: Customer issues and complaints Diagnostic findings Root cause analysis Corrective actions performed Parts utilized Equipment condition assessments Travel and labor hours Service recommendations Complete service reports and expense documentation accurately and promptly. Interpret and fully understand assigned work orders and project scope requirements. Customer Support Provide exceptional customer service while representing the company in a professional manner. Communicate installation progress, troubleshooting findings, maintenance recommendations, and operational guidance clearly to customers. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school, trade school, or vocational training in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, or electrical systems preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial equipment installation, maintenance, or field service preferred. Experience working with manufacturing equipment, conveyor systems, or food processing equipment preferred.
Ability to read and interpret:
Mechanical drawings Assembly drawings Hydraulic schematics Pneumatic schematics Electrical diagrams Technical manuals Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment. Welding and fabrication experience preferred. Forklift operation experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong mechanical troubleshooting abilities. Knowledge of industrial electrical systems and controls. Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills. Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to adapt to changing schedules and customer requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to perform frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, stooping, standing, and reaching. Ability to work in confined spaces when required. Ability to work in food processing facilities, packing houses, farms, cold storage environments, and outdoor conditions. Ability to work in high and low temperature environments. Must not have major food allergies that would prevent safe performance of job duties in food processing environments. Travel and Driving Requirements Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license. Must be capable of operating company vehicles without restrictions. Must be able to provide an acceptable DMV driving record. Ability to drive long distances for extended periods. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport permitting travel to Canada, Mexico, and potentially other countries. Domestic travel and occasional international travel required. Travel requirement is approximately 70% to 80% annually. Travel may include weekends, holidays, and overnight assignments. Work Environment This position regularly works in manufacturing plants, food processing facilities, agricultural operations, customer production facilities, and outdoor environments. Exposure to moving mechanical equipment, noise, dust, varying temperatures, and industrial environments is expected. Compensation Compensation is commensurate with experience, qualifications, certifications, and demonstrated technical abilities.
