Responsibilities/Pay Grade Water Production Mechanic Trainee
JOB SUMMARY
: Reports to the Well Mechanical Supervisor. Performs semi-skilled and skilled work of routine to above average difficulty in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the mechanical equipment associated with water treatment and water production systems. Work may be performed by assisting a higher skilled mechanic, who is available for instruction/assistance in the solution of new, unusual, or unforeseen problems or situations, in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the mechanical equipment associated with water treatment and water production systems.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
: Assists journey level mechanics in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems such as pumps, motors, valves, pipes, and other mechanical equipment associated with water utility operations.Assists in the following:
Call for emergency repairs Assists with observing, testing, and inspecting equipment and machinery for proper operation. Assists in the repair of large capacity pumps, motors, valves, pipes, etc. Assists in the performance of routine maintenance and repair work. Assists in performing the removal and replacement of pumps and motors. Assists in the overhaul of pumps, motors, and other equipment. Assists in the performance of preventive maintenance checks as scheduled. Assist with using portable pumps to de-water flooded spaces. Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water lines, pipes, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, and other related equipment.Additional Job Function:
Maintains tools and equipment. Maintains various activity records and logs of supplies and equipment used. Reads, understands, and follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). All other duties as assigned. Water Production MechanicI ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists with or repairs large capacity pumps, motors, floats, valves, pipes, bar screens, large horsepower gear boxes, incinerators, conveyor belts, etc. Performs routine maintenance and repair work. Assists with or performs removal and replacement of pumps and motors. Uses portable pumps to de-water flooded spaces. Assists with or overhauls pumps, motors, and other equipment. Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled. Maintains tools and equipment. Maintains various activity records and logs of supplies and equipment used. Prepares requisitions for the purchase of supplies and materials. Assists or performs installation, maintenance, and repairs on water lines, pipes, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, and other related equipment. May assist in the training of other division staff. Reads, understands and follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). All other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Additional vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance for application in an industrial plant environment is preferred. (Educational documentation will be requested upon offer of employment.) Must be 18 years of age or older. One year of progressively responsible experience working as a mechanic's helper or comparable position. Basic computer skills. Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Required to be available for call outs after normal working hours including nights, weekends and holidays based on ECUA business needs. As a part of the selection process, a written test will be administered to determine mechanical aptitude, knowledge of safety practices, knowledge and use of tools and reading, understanding and interpreting written material, and basic mathematics.Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of a valid driver license. Possession of a Class A CDL within six months of hire date. Possession of a Class III Water Distribution License within 24 months of hire date. Employment offers to all new hires are contingent upon the job candidates successfully passing background, motor vehicle and reference checks, drug screening, and post job offer physicals (that may include pulmonary testing). Physical Requirements/Working Environment While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk, use hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with proper lifting techniques and equipment. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, or vibration. The incumbent's working environments are typically moderately quiet, but may be loud for limited durations while working with power tools, equipment, or machinery following all prescribed safety rules and regulations. As a disaster team member, the employee is required to be available to work before, during, and after disaster as directed. : Various hand and power tools Cutting torch Plasma cutters Chop saws Band saws Drill presses Power sanders Grinders and drills Pipe threaders and cutters Gas powered centrifugal pumps Light truck or other motor vehicle Heavy equipment such as: boom truck, truck mounted crane, backhoe, bobcat, all terrain vehicle, and forklift.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of :
Rotating equipment such as speed reducers, conveyors, pumps, gear boxes, right angle and in-line gear drives. Tools, methods, materials, and techniques of the specialty area. Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools. Occupational hazards and safety precautions. Basic mathematics. Basic Windows computer applications. Skill in : Working with hand and power tools. Performing maintenance and repair tasks. Troubleshooting, decision making, and problem solving. Reading pressure gauges and micrometers. Ability to : Perform successfully in stressful and challenging working conditions. Perform routine and emergency repairs. Understand and apply basic formulas for measuring to calculate materials needed. Use of hand and power tools to perform maintenance activities. Perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment. Read and understand manuals, specifications, drawings, and blueprints. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Work as a member of a team, becoming increasingly knowledgeable and skillful in the field chosen. Perform basic mathematical calculations. Safely operate a motor vehicle.
