Inspect and service mixer drums, charging chutes, mixer drives, gearboxes, hydraulic units, and pneumatic systems. Lubricate bearings, gears, chains, and pivot points per OEM specifications; track lubrication intervals and consumption.
Replace wear parts on schedule:
mixer paddles and liners, gate seals, conveyor belts, idlers, dust collector bags, valve seats. Calibrate and verify scales, load cells, and metering systems in coordination with QA/QC and certified scale technicians. Corrective Maintenance & Breakdown Response Respond rapidly to plant breakdowns; diagnose root cause and execute repairs to restore production with minimum downtime. Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults using OEM manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools. Coordinate with the Lead Mechanic and Plant Manager on parts ordering, vendor service calls, and outage prioritization. Document every corrective action — symptoms, diagnosis, parts used, time to repair — to support reliability analysis. Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems Service hydraulic power units, cylinders, valves, pumps, and lines on plant gates, mixers, charging chutes, and reclaim systems. Maintain pneumatic systems, including air compressors, dryers, filters, regulators, butterfly valves, and silo aeration pads. Identify and correct leaks, contamination, and pressure-loss issues; maintain fluid cleanliness standards. Electrical Support Provide first-line electrical support on motors, contactors, limit switches, photo eyes, level probes, and control wiring. Replace standard electrical components within the limits of the role and applicable codes. Coordinate with licensed electricians and the controls technician on complex faults, PLC issues, and panel work. Welding & Fabrication Perform stick (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), and where qualified, flux-core welding for repairs, wear-plate replacement, and bracket fabrication. Operate cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and basic machine shop tools. Fabricate replacement parts, brackets, guards, and structural reinforcements as directed. Apply

quality standards on safety-critical and structural welds. Dust Collection & Air Quality Equipment Service central dust collectors, including bag changeouts, pulse-jet maintenance, fan inspection, and pressure differential monitoring. Maintain dust collection on silos, transfer points, and load-out areas to support compliance with the plant's air quality permit. Document maintenance activities required for environmental recordkeeping. Silos, Conveyors, & Aggregate Handling Service silos and supporting equipment: butterfly valves, level indicators, aeration systems, vibrators, and bin vents. Maintain aggregate stackers, belt conveyors, transfer chutes, gates, and feeder systems. Repair and replace conveyor belts, idlers, pulleys, scrapers, and skirting. Address aggregate carryback, spillage, and tracking issues at root cause. Water Systems & Recycling Service plant water systems including heaters, hot water lines, pumps, valves, and process water piping. Maintain the gray water reclaimer / concrete reclaim system: agitators, screens, pumps, and discharge components. Inspect HDPE-lined process water containment for damage; coordinate repairs with approved liner contractors when required. Support steam generator maintenance during cold-weather operation. Mobile Equipment Support Provide first-line mechanical support to plant-assigned mobile equipment: wheel loaders, skid steers, street sweeper, and wash bay equipment.
Perform basic service:
fluid checks, filter changes, tire and undercarriage inspections, light electrical. Coordinate dealer service for major repairs and warranty work. Documentation & Reliability Complete daily, weekly, and PM work orders in the CMMS or paper-based PM system as directed. Maintain accurate records of parts consumption, service hours, and equipment runtime.
Contribute to reliability improvement:
identify recurring failures, suggest design or procedural changes, support root-cause analysis. Maintain a clean, organized maintenance shop, tool crib, and parts storage area. Safety Work to a zero-incident safety standard; never bypass guards, lockout-tagout, or confined space requirements. Complete daily Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) before starting work. Apply lockout-tagout (LOTO), fall protection, hot work permits, and confined space entry procedures every time, without exception. Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately. Champion the Sunmat / Suntec ESOP culture and the 2026 Year of Discipline and Accountability theme on every shift. Required Five (5)+ years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in concrete batch plants, asphalt plants, mining, aggregates, or similar heavy industrial environments. Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair. Working knowledge of basic industrial electrical systems (motors, contactors, switches) within the scope of a maintenance mechanic. Stick (SMAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding proficiency; ability to cut, grind, and fabricate to spec. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, and OEM service manuals. Strong personal tool inventory appropriate to a journeyman maintenance role. Valid driver's license and clean MVR; ability to pass background, drug screening, and any client site-access requirements. High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Direct experience on Erie Strayer or comparable central-mix concrete batch plants. Experience with twin-shaft mixers, large dust collectors, large silos, and high-volume aggregate handling systems. Confined space entry and rescue training; OSHA 10 or OSHA 30; LOTO certification; powered industrial truck (forklift) certification; aerial / scissor lift certification. CMMS experience (e.g., eMaint, Fiix, Maximo, UpKeep) for work order and PM tracking. Trade school, apprenticeship, or industrial maintenance certificate. Bilingual English / Spanish. The Batch Plant Mechanic is responsible for the mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical maintenance of Sunmat's central-mix concrete batch plants and supporting plant equipment. This is a skilled trade role at one of the most significant industrial concrete supply operations in the Pacific Northwest, supporting three (3) Erie Strayer MG-12CP plants and a full complement of silos, conveyors, dust collectors, water systems, and mobile equipment. The Mechanic keeps the plants running. Plant uptime, operator safety, environmental compliance, and concrete quality all depend on the work this role does — preventive maintenance, fast and clean breakdown response, accurate diagnostics, and the discipline to do the job right the first time. The Mechanic works closely with Plant Operators, the Batch Plant Manager, the Lead Mechanic, and outside vendors to deliver a 95%+ plant availability KPI.
