You won't be sweeping floors all day, you will be a valuable part of a skilled manufacturing team responsible for protecting, preparing, inspecting, and packaging large, high-value propulsion components before they reach our military and commercial customers. What You'll Be Doing As a Utility Worker Technician II, you will support several important manufacturing operations, including: Assisting with the inspection of precision mechanical components, ensuring quality and attention to detail Building custom wooden crates and packaging large marine propulsion components for safe shipment around the world Wrapping and protecting large propellers and critical components before delivery to our customers Performing touch-up painting and preparing components for assembly or shipment Preparing tools, materials, and equipment for our Assembly team Supporting various areas of the manufacturing floor, including material handling and maintaining a clean, safe workspace Assisting wherever needed to help the team meet customer commitments and delivery schedules Every task matters. These are critical components supporting our military partners, and ensuring they arrive on time and in excellent condition has a direct impact on our customers' missions. What Makes You Successful in This Role We are looking for someone who: Enjoys hands-on, physical work and takes pride in craftsmanship Has strong mechanical aptitude and the willingness to learn Is comfortable standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and moving throughout the shift Can safely lift and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance from overhead hoists, cranes, and forklifts (training provided) Understands the importance of safety, quality, and following procedures Has strong attention to detail and understands that small mistakes can have significant consequences Is reliable, adaptable, and willing to cross-train in multiple areas of manufacturing Can work overtime and occasionally support different shifts based on business and customer needs Works well with others and contributes to a team-first culture Basic Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent 0-2 years of experience in manufacturing, mechanical, warehouse, construction, automotive, military, or other hands-on technical environments preferred Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and a desire to learn a skilled trade Ability to follow work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards Ability to wear required PPE and work around manufacturing materials and chemicals used in the process Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening A positive attitude, dependable attendance, and commitment to continuous improvement Why Join Bird-Johnson & Fairbanks Morse Defense?
