Overview Tekberry is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer III to support our client, Corning Incorporated, a global leader in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies. This role focuses on the design, development, and industrialization of equipment used in optical fiber manufacturing processes . This is a hands-on engineering role supporting prototype and pilot equipment development, with the opportunity to contribute to next-generation manufacturing platforms that improve product quality, efficiency, and cost. Position Summary The Mechanical Engineer III will work within multi-disciplinary teams to design, prototype, and validate manufacturing equipment and process platforms. This role involves translating experimental concepts into scalable engineering solutions that enhance manufacturing performance across yield, quality, throughput, and cost. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in machine design, materials, and manufacturing processes , along with the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines to develop innovative solutions. Key Responsibilities Equipment Design & Development Design, develop, and improve manufacturing equipment and process platforms Translate experimental concepts into engineering requirements and system designs Prototype and pilot new equipment solutions for manufacturing applications Apply risk management tools to ensure on-time project delivery Testing & Validation Design and execute equipment validation tests in lab and manufacturing environments Analyze data, draw conclusions, and recommend improvements Support industrialization of new equipment and processes Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support Work closely with electrical, controls, chemical, and materials engineers Collaborate with internal and external design experts Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to improve manufacturing performance Project & Process Support Support budgeting and funding requests for equipment development projects Document engineering designs, test results, and process improvements Contribute to initiatives improving: Manufacturing yield Process efficiency Product quality Equipment utilization Energy and material usage Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field (e.g., Physics) 5 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering or equipment design Strong understanding of: Machine design or system integration Material properties and applications Physical principles (heat transfer, fluid mechanics, dynamics, etc.) Experience designing and executing experiments in lab and manufacturing environments Ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines Proficiency with 3D CAD software (AutoDesk Inventor preferred) Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with manufacturing or materials processing equipment Familiarity with: Machine controls (PLC, motion control, sensors) Safety systems and standards Experience with data analysis tools (Python, Power BI, JMP, etc.) Knowledge of optical fiber manufacturing processes Experience with simulation/modeling tools (MATLAB, Aspen, Fluent) Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field Work Environment Fully onsite engineering and manufacturing environment Hands-on role involving lab testing and plant-based validation Collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams Up to 10% domestic travel required We need hard-working, innovative engineers who thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced manufacturing environment.
