Job Description

Nanotech is a world leader in ultraprecision machining, the base technology behind optics manufacturing with wide ranges of applications that may include cell phone camera modules, AR/VR, communications satellites, solar energy, telescopes, medical imaging, and numerous military applications. We offer our Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technicians a dynamic environment, for candidates who enjoy hands-on work and are interested in developing a new set of unique skills in ultra-precision technology and optics. The Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician is involved in building ultra-precision machines is responsible for assembling complex mechanical systems to exact tolerances. This work includes interpreting detailed engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics to accurately fit, align, and secure components such as spindles, and precision bearings. They use specialized tools and measurement equipment to ensure assemblies meet micrometer- or nanometer-level accuracy requirements. In addition to mechanical assembly, they may assist in troubleshooting, testing, and calibrating systems to verify performance and functionality. Attention to detail, steady hands, and a strong understanding of mechanical principles are essential in ensuring the machines achieve the highest standards of precision and reliability. Core Responsibilities Performs all mechanical assembly tasks on complex precision systems (e.g. alignment, fitting, mounting, fastening). Calibrates, adjusts, and mechanically tunes precision machining systems using high precision metrology equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints, CAD drawings, mechanical schematics, bills of materials, and mechanical specifications. Identifies mechanical defects or misalignments and documents the findings, supporting root cause analysis. Performs mechanical debugging and adjustments during test cycles. Supports mechanical test setups (fixtures, jigs, motions) and verifies mechanical performance. Works cross‑departmentally to support mechanical integration, build timeline adherence, and to support Nanotech's internal and external customers. Maintains strict mechanical quality standards through all steps of assembly, inspection, and verification. Keeps work area clean and organized. Follows safety rules and uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). May be required to work overtime and weekends to meet production demands. Performs electrical tasks such as basic wiring, basic soldering, electrical component installation or connector installation as needed. May be required to travel between NH and NC facilities as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience High school diploma or G.E.D. (or equivalent). 2 to 5 years of mechanical assembly, machine tools, or related industry experience. Demonstrated ability to work with mechanical systems, fixtures, machine tools, and precision components. Proficiency reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics. Strong troubleshooting capacity; especially for mechanical faults (alignment, binding, tolerances). Competencies Good time management, planning, and coordination of mechanical tasks. Excellent attention to detail and quality orientation. Troubleshooting skills. Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team and independently.
