Full-time Position Summary:

The Journeyman Mechanic (B Tech) is responsible for performing routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, ensuring their safe and efficient operation. This position requires a solid understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to address and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. The Journeyman Mechanic will work independently or as part of a team, following industry standards and ensuring quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnosis & Repair:

Perform detailed diagnostics on vehicles or machinery to identify issues with mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems. Repair or replace defective parts such as engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and other essential components. Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately troubleshoot complex mechanical problems.

Maintenance:

Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles or equipment, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, fluid checks, and other services. Ensure all work is performed according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.

Safety & Compliance:

Follow safety protocols to ensure the safe operation of equipment and the safety of coworkers and customers. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials and waste in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Documentation & Reporting:

Keep accurate records of maintenance, repairs, parts used, and hours worked for each job. Provide detailed reports of repairs and inspections for management or customers, as needed.

Teamwork & Collaboration:

Work closely with other mechanics and technicians to ensure the timely completion of projects and effective problem-solving. Assist in training and mentoring apprentices or junior mechanics as needed.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited automotive or diesel technology program preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic, with a demonstrated ability to perform repairs on a variety of vehicle types or machinery. Certification as a Journeyman Mechanic or completion of an apprenticeship program (required). ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification or similar credentials preferred but not required.

Technical Skills:

Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including engine performance, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and heating/cooling systems. Proficient in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment. Ability to interpret and follow service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift heavy components and work in physically demanding conditions. Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.

Work is typically performed in a shop or garage setting with exposure to noise, chemicals, and mechanical equipment.
