Pay:
$25.58 - $38.37/hour + 10% shift differential
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM (Second Shift/Afternoons)
Location:
Rochester, New York, United States (Fully Onsite) About the Role Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic (Industrial Maintenance Mechanic) to support manufacturing operations. This role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive and predictive maintenance on industrial production equipment, including injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, electrical systems, and facility HVAC systems. This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined technician with strong electrical diagnostics and industrial maintenance experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on injection molding machines and associated auxiliary equipment Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems (120V-480V), including motors, controls, sensors, relays, and AC/DC drives Diagnose and repair mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, belts, couplings, and drive systems Support troubleshooting of PLC-controlled equipment, including basic fault tracing and component replacement Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, ladder logic, and technical manuals Maintain and repair HVAC and facility support systems Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat failures Document maintenance activities and work orders in
SAP/CMMS
systems Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to improve equipment uptime, reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability and process stability Follow OSHA safety standards and company policies, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures Environment Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance and frequently lift up to 50 lbs. (assisted lifting above 50 lbs. when needed) Extended standing and walking; occasional kneeling, crouching, and crawling Work in a warehouse and manufacturing setting with fluctuating hot/cold temperatures, loud equipment noise, and rapid flashing lights Exposure to hazardous/toxic materials and various outdoor weather conditions Work at heights and around energized systems and moving machinery Must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP/cGMP) safety standards Cleanroom environment: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, or facial hair allowed Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, gowns, lab coats, and ear protection required Qualifications Required High School Diploma or GED 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment Minimum 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience as a Mechanic or Technician Electrical diagnostics experience (120V-480V systems) Strong troubleshooting skills in hydraulics and pneumatics Mechanical repair experience (bearings, belts, alignment, couplings) Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics Strong documentation and communication skills At least 2+ years of experience working on molding machines Preferred Experience with motor controls and variable frequency drives (VFDs) Working knowledge of AC/DC drives Experience with industrial automation systems and PLC-based equipment
