Senior Mechanical Engineer Charleston, South Carolina Metropolitan Area (Hybrid) $165,000 - $180,000 Base Salary + Quarterly Bonuses + 12% 401(k)

20%+ Must-Haves Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in industrial manufacturing or heavy process environments Strong hands-on troubleshooting experience with industrial mechanical systems and equipment Experience supporting heavy industrial equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, compressors, piping, and furnaces Ability to travel up to 75% across multiple manufacturing facilities Background in steel, metals, mining, foundry, or similar heavy industries strongly preferred Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar mechanical design software preferred Proven experience supporting capital projects, equipment reliability, and plant maintenance initiatives Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to serve as a key technical resource supporting multiple manufacturing facilities across a growing industrial network. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in heavy industrial environments and enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, improving equipment reliability, and leading impactful plant projects. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will partner closely with plant maintenance, operations, reliability, and engineering teams to troubleshoot critical equipment issues, optimize mechanical performance, support capital projects, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across all facilities. Key Responsibilities Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for critical plant equipment including motors, gearboxes, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, compressors, furnaces, and piping systems Investigate recurring equipment failures and downtime issues while implementing long-term corrective actions Lead and support root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives Manage and support small to mid-sized capital projects including equipment upgrades, installations, and plant improvements Collaborate with plant leadership on project planning, equipment specifications, vendor coordination, budgeting, and execution timelines Support equipment commissioning, startup activities, and mechanical system optimization Partner with maintenance teams to standardize best practices and improve troubleshooting capabilities Evaluate and improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs across facilities Support spare parts strategy, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and overall asset management initiatives Identify opportunities to improve uptime, reduce maintenance costs, and increase operational efficiency Recommend and implement mechanical design improvements and system modifications Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary with strong bonus potential Quarterly bonus opportunities with total bonus potential exceeding 20% 401(k) plan with company match up to 12% PPO medical plan with low deductibles Wellness credits up to $750 Free concierge primary care services Free telemedicine services Dental and vision coverage Company-paid life insurance Short-term and long-term disability coverage Ideal Background This position is well-suited for experienced mechanical engineers from heavy industrial manufacturing environments such as steel, metals, mining, paper, cement, foundry, or other process-driven industries who enjoy traveling, solving plant-wide mechanical challenges, and driving operational improvements across multiple facilities.
