Job Description

Location Houston metro area — dispatched from our Dickinson office. Routes cover Houston, Galveston, and surrounding communities. About Fortress Elevator Fortress Elevator is a Texas-based elevator service, maintenance, and modernization company. We are family-owned, woman-owned (WBE), and headquartered in Dickinson. Our customers are the buildings that cannot afford for their elevators to be down — hospitals, universities, government facilities, and large commercial portfolios across the Houston metro and Texas. Our mission is "Elevating What Matters." About This Role The Elevator Mechanic is the working tier between apprentice and senior mechanic. You will install, maintain, and repair elevators, escalators, and related lift systems alongside more experienced mechanics. You will work with limited supervision on routine work, escalate complex issues to your District Leader, and support apprentices on your job sites. You will also respond to emergency service calls as part of the on-call rotation. Most of your routes will be on institutional and large commercial accounts — places where the customer expects a consistent, well-trained tech who knows their equipment. You will not be doing one-off service calls all day. The work is steady, the equipment is varied, and the customers value reliability. Fortress invests in its technicians. We support and fund Certified Elevator Technician (CET) progression through the NAEC curriculum. If you are CET-track or working toward full CET certification, we will help you finish. Key Responsibilities Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of elevators, escalators, and related lift equipment Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and implement effective solutions Work independently and manage assigned job tasks and timelines under the supervision of a District Leader Support apprentices on job sites — share what you know, help them ramp Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on customer service contracts Maintain accurate service records, ticket entries, and time/parts documentation in our field service management system Communicate clearly with customers, dispatchers, and the office team Respond to emergency service calls as part of the on-call rotation Adhere to all Fortress safety protocols, code requirements, and industry regulations Required One or more years of hands-on elevator installation, maintenance, or repair experience — OR comparable hands-on experience in HVAC, industrial mechanical, or commercial electrical with strong mechanical and electrical aptitude Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces or at heights Reliable transportation Valid Texas driver's license Authorization to work in the United States High school diploma or equivalent Preferred CET (Certified Elevator Technician) credential or active progression in the NAEC curriculum Direct elevator industry experience Familiarity with field service management software (FIELDBOSS, ServiceTitan, or similar) Experience working in institutional, healthcare, or large commercial settings Compensation Starting wage: $28.00 to $32.00 per hour, depending on experience Compensation reviewed after successful completion of the 90-day probationary period Health, dental, and vision insurance Health savings account Paid time off and paid holidays Why Fortress Steady, institutional customer base — your routes are predictable and your customers value the relationship Fortress will support your CET progression with funded education and on-the-job mentorship Defined growth path from Apprentice to Mechanic to Senior Mechanic / Adjuster, with documented role and compensation progression Family-led, woman-owned company with the systems and operational discipline of a much larger operation Direct working relationship with your District Leader and the Director of Maintenance & Service — your work is visible and your input matters
