Who We Are:
The rotating machinery group at Southwest Research Institute takes concepts for machinery that support the energy grid and distribution system of the future and turns them into working prototypes. Role:
Help engineers set up and perform tests on rotating machinery for the energy industry. This includes turbochargers, compressors, pumps, gas turbines, and other related systems. Ensure all Data and communications equipment operating within the facility functions properly and remains organized.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
Assemble data acquisition (DAQ) cabinets, mount back panels, install cable trays, din-rail, terminal blocks and other DAQ related items to prepare cabinet for wiring or commissioning. Assemble wire runs and pull wire, exercise proper preparation and labeling of all wires and DAQ equipment to be installed. Punch holes in proper location on cabinet when necessary and install fans, purge systems or conduit end to end. Assemble proper framework for mounting the DAQ cabinet when necessary, this involves knowledge of using Unistrut with the proper hardware, concrete anchors, wall anchors, etc. Practice general cleanliness, reorganize tools after use, clean any metal shavings, insulation etc. after assembly is finished. Protect essential hardware from any and all debris while cleaning, cutting, drilling or tapping. Perform general wiring tasks as necessary. Practice proper preparation and installation techniques. This involves a basic understanding of wiring diagrams, and P&IDs. Perform continuity checks with a multimeter when necessary to ensure proper communication between terminals.
Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. 2-10 years: Mechanical experience to include equipment repair, plumbing, oilfield operations, HVAC, automotive mechanic or other related electrical or mechanical technician experience. Familiarity with mechanical tools, general laboratory equipment, electrical troubleshooting tools, electrical work tools such as wire strippers and ferrule crimpers. A basic knowledge and understanding of P&ID's, and wiring diagrams is preferred but not required. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
Special Requirements:
Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
