Maintenance Aide

The City is looking for one safety-conscious employee to work in the Traffic Safety Division of Public Works-Operations and Maintenance. This is a temporary (50 weeks) full-time position with medical, dental, and vision insurance options as well as accumulated paid sick leave.

Definition / Distinguishing

Characteristics Under supervision, to perform a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks in the routine operation of public facilities; to operate Type C power driven equipment; to perform related duties as required. Class Characteristics This is a trainee position in the maintenance series of classifications. After appropriate training and experience, the Maintenance Aide could reasonably expect to be promoted to Maintenance Worker unless a permanent Maintenance Aide position has been established. Perform heavy routine manual labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sewers, buildings, parks, recreation areas and other municipal facilities. Load and unload material. Excavate and backfill trenches with appropriate hand tools. Clean gutters, drains and culverts. Rake leaves, clean grounds and assist in spraying. Cut weeds, clear brush and trim trees. Operate, clean and maintain basic tools and equipment used on the job. Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

Use, maintenance and application of basic hand tools; safe work practices.

Required Licenses/Certifications :

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

May drive dump truck and other similar Type C power driven equipment.
