Imagine spending your summer outdoors at a beautiful lake and ranch site in the San Francisco East Bay, staying active while helping camp run smoothly behind the scenes. As a Maintenance Worker at Roughing It Day Camp, you'll support our programs by keeping our camp sites safe, clean, and ready for fun each day. It's a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, being outside, and making a difference. Now Hiring for Summer 2026! We are currently hiring a Maintenance Worker to support our operations team and camp sites. The Maintenance Worker plays a critical role in the daily function of our camp and ranch programs throughout the Lamorinda area. Under the supervision of the Transportation Coordinator, this staff member helps with everything from delivering supplies to setting up shade structures, maintaining cleanliness, assisting with parking lot traffic, and running errands in the camp pickup truck. No two days are exactly the same, and the role is ideal for someone who's flexible, proactive, and likes working on a variety of tasks. Transportation from San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Pleasant Hill, San Ramon We are a day camp and most summer staff drive to our camp sites in Lafayette or Moraga. Staff in this position must provide their own transportation to and from camp each day. Requirements High school diploma (by start of summer) Minimum age 18 Valid driver's license and excellent driving record Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in heat and varied weather Comfortable performing physical tasks and operating basic tools and equipment Responsibilities Conduct daily site surveys and weekly vehicle pre-trip inspections Drive the camp pickup truck to run errands, pick up/purchase supplies, and transport gear to camp sites Assist with loading and unloading buses each day Set up and take down program areas, including portable shade structures at fishing and rowing docks Clean and restock bathrooms, fill water igloos, empty trash and recycling Help move and clean supplies, furniture, and equipment Assist with organizing and ordering camp supplies Support activity areas or serve as backup assistant counselor when needed Row boats or canoes across the Reservoir (half mile), as needed Help maintain camp vans, buses, and trucks in coordination with the Transportation Coordinator Job Details 2026
Camp Season:
Mon-Fri, June 15, 2026 through August 7, 2026
Camp Hours:
The camp day is 9:00am-3:00pm, and staff help with site prep or act as bus counselors before and after. Most positions are 43-47 hours/week.
Location:
Our main camp site is at the Lafayette Reservoir. Our swimming site is at the Soda Aquatic Center in Moraga. Staff commute to their work site unless they are a bus counselor who meets the bus at its first stop. About Roughing It Day Camp Roughing It Day Camp is an all-outdoor summer camp is located on a 900-acre lakefront site in the San Francisco East Bay Area. Campers develop confidence and skill progression while participating in swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, rowing, arts and crafts, sports, and more! Our summer camps are dedicated to helping children grow through outdoor learning experiences and develop life skills that prepare them to take on the world.
