To perform semiskilled and skilled functions in one or more of the basic building and maintenance trades; and to do other related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES 1.

Performs semiskilled and skilled maintenance, repair and construction work in the basic trades, such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, heating, locksmithing and vehicle maintenance; 2. Participates in the construction, installation and maintenance of: roofs, furniture, fences, playground equipment, cabinets, shelving, whiteboards, bulletin boards and a variety of other items; 3. Repairs and maintains gas and water lines, doors and window panes, electrical equipment of various types, floors, ceiling tiles, door locks and closers; 4 Maintains basic HVAC equipment and does troubleshooting and minor adjustments and repairs; 5. Prepares and paints interior and exterior, school and facility physical structures using a variety of textures and finishes; 6. Performs welding using gas, arc, tig, and mig welding processes; 7. Operates equipment such as service vehicles, tractors, backhoes, trenchers and other related motorized equipment; 8. Performs minor vehicle maintenance; 9. QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Basic methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance repair, construction work, and minor vehicle maintenance; Safe working methods and procedures.

Ability to:

Skillfully use a variety of tools and equipment utilized in the basic maintenance trades; Work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches; Maintain records and prepare meaningful reports as required; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; Understand and use computerized maintenance program; Routinely and correctly lift and carry weights up to, but not to exceed, 50 pounds.

Experience :

One year of experience as a semiskilled or skilled worker in one or more of the basic maintenance trades.

Education :

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade; High school diploma or equivalent. License Requirements Possession of a valid Class C California driver license.
