"Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. The Maintenance Aide is assigned to the Monterey Sector Maintenance Program and works under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor. This is an excellent entry level opportunity to get your foot in the door with California State Parks! If you are interested in starting a career with the Department or just looking to work outdoors, look no further. You will be joining an established maintenance team and have opportunities to perfect and learn new skills in building maintenance, grounds maintenance, carpentry, and operation of small equipment and tools. This position is assigned to the Monterey sector maintenance program and covers many of the Monterey area beaches from Zmudowski State Beach near Moss Landing, down to Point Lobos State Natural Reserve in Carmel. The primary reporting location is 2211 Garden Road, but the position may be required to work at other locations throughout the district as assigned and based on operational need. Primary responsibilities are housekeeping duties including, but not limited to, cleaning restrooms, trash pick-up, graffiti removal, sand removal, and litter pick-up. This is a uniformed position, and the hired employee must abide by all applicable departmental uniform and grooming standards. Lifting objects up to 40 pounds is required. Must be able to read and write English, follow instructions, and work independently. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible. The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment. Possession of a valid driver's license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)
