OVERVIEW

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintenance and janitorial duties of the Harbor Light Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Take charge of facility operations when the Facilities Manager is unavailable Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment at Harbor Light Center facilities Complete minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC repairs Diagnose and repair issues with lighting, heating, cooling, and appliances Keep walkways, hallways, and common areas safe and well maintained Oversee facility repairs and coordinate work with subcontractors and janitorial staff Prepare rooms after move-outs and conduct move-in and move-out inspections Maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems in collaboration with Janitors Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and support emergency planning Provide regular written and verbal updates to the Facilities Manager and Executive Director Follow all company safety policies to maintain a safe environment Support deep cleaning tasks such as windows, floors, and power washing Manage trash removal and ensure proper recycling Identify and report safety hazards for correction Inspect and maintain fire safety equipment Respond quickly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs Communicate major maintenance needs and coordinate contractor quotes Maintain accurate maintenance logs, property records, and occupant information Help prepare monthly and quarterly reports for leadership Track repairs, room turnovers, and capital projects for timing and budget Be available after hours and on weekends for emergencies Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent (required) Experience in building maintenance and repair work (1 year required) CA Driver's license (required) OSHA Safety Certification (within first ninety days of employment

• company provided) Tuberculosis clearance (within first fourteen days of employment
• company provided)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Bilingual in Spanish (preferred) Strong organizational and communication skills Knowledge of property maintenance and repair practices Basic skills in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a team Working knowledge of health and safety regulations Ability to maintain professional boundaries while working respectfully with vulnerable populations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
