Job Description

Depending on Qualifications (DOQ):
Maintenance Worker I:
$23.12-$30.99 per hour, plus excellent benefits.
Maintenance Worker II:
$26.77-$35.96 per hour, plus excellent benefits.

Work Schedule:
The Public Works Streets Department works a 4/10 work schedule: Monday through Thursday, 5:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. This position may be required to be on-call and to work various shifts or emergencies on evenings, weekends, and holidays. The City of Twentynine Palms Public Works Streets Maintenance Department is hiring for the position of Maintenance Worker I or Maintenance Worker II, depending on the level of experience and licensing acquired at the time of hire. The Maintenance Worker I position is distinguished from Maintenance Worker II in that the latter performs more complex work that requires additional knowledge, skills, licenses, as well as performs heavy construction equipment operations. Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker II/Maintenance Worker I performs a variety of duties including but not limited to: construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of City infrastructure, including repair activities of City streets and roadways to ensure safe and efficient access for the public including sidewalks, curbs and gutters, stormwater and drainage systems and facilities, asphalt pavement, crack seal application, concrete repair, traffic and street sign installation and repair, and traffic markings. Performs concrete work, including attending to trip hazards, demolishing, and removing concrete, and forming, pouring, and finishing sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. Performs legend painting and striping of City streets and parking lots using appropriate materials. Provides assistance with set-up and removal of equipment and facilities at community events; uses and operates a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power-driven equipment depending on assignment. Maintenance Worker I Position Education and Experience Requirements:
Must possess an equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade. Some experience in basic maintenance and construction related to Municipal infrastructure, facilities, streets, and systems.
License and Additional Position Requirements:
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License at the time of hire, with satisfactory driving record and automobile insurance. Possession of or ability to obtain Commercial California Class A Driver's License with appropriate endorsements within six months of employment. This position participates in the DOT random drug/alcohol testing program.
Maintenance Worker II Position Education and Experience Requirements:
Must possess an equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and construction of Municipal infrastructure, facilities, and systems equivalent to Maintenance Worker I at the City of Twentynine Palms. Work experience including operation of heavy construction and maintenance equipment desirable.
License and Additional Position Requirements:
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License at the time of hire, with satisfactory driving record and automobile insurance. Possession of or ability to obtain Commercial California Class A Driver's License with appropriate endorsements within six (6) months of employment. This position participates in the DOT random drug/alcohol testing program.
