Job Description

The public works maintenance worker works under the general supervision and direction of the Public Works Operations Manager, assists in the maintenance of streets, parks, facilities, water systems, sewer systems, and public rights of way. Due to the regular high level of physical exertion required by the job, a maintenance worker must possess and maintain the level of physical condition and fitness necessary to adequately perform the essential duties and responsibilities. As a member of the Public Works team, individuals in this position perform skilled and semi-skilled task assignments necessary to operate and maintain the Town of Lochbuie. Overtime and flexible schedules may be required to fulfill organizational needs such as snow removal or emergency response duties. This position requires you to be on-call for 14 consecutive days, approximately every 8 weeks.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The intent of this classification is to describe the job tasks and level of responsibility and difficulty required of persons assigned to this title. This is not to be considered a detailed description of every duty/responsibility of the job: Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in a public works unit to include any combination of the following: Perform construction, maintenance, and repair work of Town streets, sidewalks, alleys, parking lots, gutters, and storm drains including patching potholes, roadway grading, trenching, asphalt paving, crack sealing, and storm drainage gutter and grate cleaning. Rake and finish asphalt, demonstrating the proficient operation of motor graders, front-end loaders, and paving equipment. Perform snow and ice removal. Manual digging and excavating. Perform construction, maintenance, and repair work of Town Facilities, parks, right-of-way and open spaces including mowing, irrigation systems, trees, play equipment, skate park, and parks facilities. Perform routine service on assigned vehicles including filling with gasoline, water and oil as well as checking brake systems and other safety devices. Maintain daily activity records and maintenance logs as required. Reads water meters for billing. Work within the Town's asset management program (OpenGov) Perform work in a safe manner and comply with pertinent safety standards and procedures, traffic laws, and traffic control methods. Assist in the maintenance of town structures, buildings, and fixtures. Complete daily work orders. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand written materials and verbal information and instruction. Ability to use basic mathematical skills in making basic calculations. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to respond to on-call duties on a routine rotating schedule and arrive on scene within 60 minutes to emergencies while on-call. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to respond to public contacts in a courteous and professional manner. Computer data processing skills necessary for record-keeping programs for the town are preferred. Ability to efficiently and effectively use a "Smart" mobile phone device. Ability to successfully pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) mandated physical examination as required, and the controlled substance/alcohol tests on a random basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Maintenance Worker I): High school diploma or equivalent; Must be at least 21 years old; This is an entry level position; experience will be provided through on-the-job training. Basic computer skills are preferred; Any equivalent combination of training, experience, and education that provides evidence the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Maintenance Worker II): Maintenance Worker I qualifications plus; three (3) years of experience as a Maintenance Worker or Equipment Operator for the Town of Lochbuie or equivalent municipal experience; Experience operating heavy machinery such as backhoe, skid steer or loader preferred; Three (3) years of related experience in water and/or sewer distribution preferred, which should include basic hands-on mechanical experience with functional knowledge of pumps, valves, fire hydrants, and meters; Intermediate computer skills are preferred; Any equivalent combination of training, experience, and education that provides evidence the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Maintenance Worker III): Maintenance Worker II qualifications plus; Five (5) years of experience as a Maintenance Worker or Equipment Operator for the Town of Lochbuie; or Five (5) years of related experience in water and/or sewer distribution preferred, which should include basic hands-on mechanical experience with functional knowledge of pumps, valves, fire hydrants, and meters; Provide basic infrastructure inspections from development projects; Intermediate computer skills are preferred; Any equivalent combination of training, experience, and education that provides evidence the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License. Must be able to obtain a Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License within one (1) year of employment. Class 1 in water distribution and sewer collection preferred or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
Flagger / Traffic
Control Certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment. CPR/1st Aid certification preferred. The Town is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
