Parks Maintenance Operator I Department:
Parks and Recreation Code:
256 Performs a variety of entry level semi-skilled duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, upkeep and repair of city buildings, recreation facilities, parks, grounds and general environment. Assists with seasonal operations upkeep and maintenance including Parks, Ski Tow, Ice Rink and Trails. Works under the general supervision of the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Manager. None. Responsible for the maintenance and appearance of Fellin Park, Rotary Park, Woman's Club Park, the Dog Park, Box Cañon falls, the river walk and other city owned trails. Monitor and record geothermal inventory for all of the city's geothermal wells. Performs tasks related to park landscaping and maintenance including mowing; edging; weeding; installing/maintaining irrigation systems; picking up trash/litter; maintaining athletic field areas; fertilizing; pruning, planting, tree trimming; laying sod; maintaining trails, park play equipment, etc. Repairs fences, gates, walls and walks. Operates a variety of light to medium equipment, including: tractor, motor vehicle, etc. Operates other hand and power equipment, such as: mowers, edger, chain saws, weed eater, hand tools, power tools, long-handle tools, etc. May perform routine maintenance on equipment as needed, including fuels, lubricates, performs preventative maintenance and inspects equipment for use in maintenance facilities and projects. Assists at special events including some holidays such as the 4th of July, the community clean up day, cabin fever days, softball preparation, and community volunteer days. Assists in set-up at Community Center and parks for special events Builds, maintains, and is otherwise responsible for the functionality of the Ouray Ice rink.. This includes organizing and sterilizing ice skates/ the warming hut, building ice, maintaining the ice, and reinforcing the rink itself. The ice rink often requires night work early in the year to get the ice started. Play a supporting role in trail maintenance City wide. Serve as back up for Ski Tow Operators and Via Ferrata Rangers. Maintains public facilities, storage sites and other buildings in a clean and orderly condition. This includes but is not limited to City Hall, the Ouray Hot Springs Poolhouse, 333 6th Avenue, the Fire Department, Ice Park Facilities, and restrooms City wide. Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials and equipment used. 1.
Education and Experience:
A. Graduation from a standard senior high school; AND B. No experience necessary; OR C. An equivalent combination of education and experience. 2.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some knowledge of maintenance equipment such as mowers, trimmers, etc.; of hazards and related safety precautions associated with equipment operations. Some skill in the operation of various types of light equipment such as gang mower, trimmer, chain saw, etc. Ability to effectively, perform various unskilled and semi-skilled functions related to turf maintenance, landscaping and building maintenance; communicate verbally and in writing; develop effective working relationships with supervisor, co workers and the public. Ability to lift 50 lbs, drive with a trailer and operate heavy equipment safely. Work some weekends, holidays and early mornings/ nights 3.
Special Qualifications:
Weekend will be required. Must possess a valid Colorado driver license. 4.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in high, precarious, or confined places. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and 25-60 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs, or other parts of body and to physically maneuver over and/or upon varying terrain, surfaces, or physical structures. Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing. Required to wear protective safety gear and use safety equipment to protect against potential biohazards possibly encountered during performance of maintenance activities. May work with restricted use chemicals to perform maintenance activities. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required. Performs essential functions in the public right-of-way. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Daily exposure to seasonal weather extremes and frequent local travel required in the normal course of job performance.
