Pagosa Springs Medical Center - Pagosa Springs, Colorado Position Highlight Work hands-on maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning healthcare environment—indoors and outdoors—while supporting a mission-driven team. Position Summary Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a dependable and hardworking Facilities Worker I to support our Facilities team. This role is responsible for maintaining hospital grounds and assisting with basic building maintenance, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Duties include landscaping, snow removal, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and general facility support. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, safety-focused, and comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions. Schedule Highlights Full-time position (40 hours per week) Includes scheduled on-call rotation 30-minute response time required when on call May require occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays for emergencies or weather-related needs Key Responsibilities Groundskeeping & Outdoor Maintenance Maintain hospital grounds including lawns, landscaping, sidewalks, and parking areas Mow, trim, edge, weed, plant, fertilize, and water landscaped areas Remove litter and maintain clean exterior spaces Perform snow and ice removal, including shoveling, plowing, and applying de-icing materials Facilities & Maintenance Support Assist with basic carpentry, painting, and minor building repairs Support preventative maintenance tasks and facility upkeep Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed Maintain and complete work orders in the Facilities system Equipment & Tools Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, blowers, trimmers, and hand tools Perform basic maintenance on equipment (oil changes, blade sharpening, minor repairs) Ensure tools and equipment are used safely and properly Safety & Compliance Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors Follow all safety protocols and infection prevention practices Respond to emergencies and assist with urgent facility needs Documentation & Communication Document work completed and track maintenance activities Communicate issues, repairs, and needs to supervisor Interact professionally with staff, patients, vendors, and visitors Education High school diploma or equivalent required Experience Minimum one (1) year of experience in groundskeeping , maintenance, or related field preferred Basic knowledge of carpentry, painting, and groundskeeping strongly preferred Certifications Current AHA BLS (Heartsaver) certification required Life Safety training preferred (may be obtained on the job) Skills Ability to safely operate tools and equipment Basic mechanical and maintenance skills Strong work ethic and self-motivation Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks Basic computer skills (email, work order systems) Work Environment Combination of indoor and outdoor work Exposure to weather conditions including heat, cold, snow, and rain Use of tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment Exposure to chemicals, equipment hazards, and environmental risks Physically demanding role including lifting, walking, bending, and standing
Compensation & Benefits Base Compensation Range:
$18.00 - $27.83 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader.
