DESCRIPTION
BENEFITS General Description This position performs maintenance and repairs of stormwater; system, treatment process, retention ponds, mowing, illicit discharge inspections and other Public Service projects. This position works under general supervision according to procedures/processes. In some cases, the worker may determine how to complete tasks. This position is non-exempt. Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will apply. Per Florida Statute 295.065, certain servicemembers and veterans, and the spouses and family members of such servicemembers and veterans, receive preference and priority, and that certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled. Primary Duties Performs duties related to the enhancement, cleaning, repair, and maintenance of stormwater structures such as drains, catch basins, baffle boxes and retention ponds. Conducts preventive maintenance, receives and responds to repair work orders, and completes records and daily written reports regarding work performed, equipment used. Conducts inspection on outfalls, drains and catch basins for illicit discharge; and make reports. Conduct inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with existing illicit discharge regulations. Drives and maintains vehicles, such as a backhoe, Vactor truck and sweeper truck; operates heavy equipment and small power hand tools. Cleans up canals, land-locked lakes and water retention areas, cuts and sods swale and other grassy areas. May perform any of the following: a) performs general grounds keeping; manual labor in the maintenance of the exterior of lift stations and various properties including, but not limited to: digging, shoveling, sweeping, mowing grass, trimming trees and shrubs, installing landscape materials, and removing weeds and debris; b) assists with clean-up operations after hurricanes and other inclement weather; c) sweeps streets; d) obtains water samples; e) puts up signs and safety equipment, such as set cones, flagging, etc.; f) handles traffic flow; and/or g) Collects and disposes of trash/refuse. Transports materials and equipment to/from work sites; makes deliveries; and runs other errands as assigned. Properly uses equipment and tools, follows safety practices (including personal protective equipment when required), and is continuously aware of occupational hazards during the performance of assigned tasks. Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of safety and quality. Ensures the timely completion of all assignments; and provides courteous and prompt customer service. Maintains records and prepares reports as required or requested. Attends training, meetings, and workshops as required to enhance job knowledge, skills. May be placed on-call during emergencies, such as hurricanes, storms, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Two (2) years of related work experience; preferably in stormwater or construction. Prefer previous training in trench safety, fall protection and confined space. Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Inspector, Stormwater Operator 1 & 2 and Traffic Control and Safety in the Work Zone certifications, or obtain all within 1 year from date of hire. Valid Florida Driver's License Valid Class "B" Commercial Florida Driver's Permit with an air brake and tanker endorsement within three (3) months of hire; obtains Class "B" Commercial Florida Driver's License within six (6) months from date of hire. within six (6) months from date of employment. In some cases, an equivalent combination of higher education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience is in a relevant and related field. Essential Physical Functions & Environmental Conditions Physical Demands Continual light work and occasional heavy work. Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds. Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, and bending. Good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination. Good eyesight, hearing and speech. Regular driving of vehicle. Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required. Work Environment Works outside in sometimes adverse environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, and rain) for extended periods of time. Depending on assigned area, may be exposed to construction, water/wastewater, and other site hazards including, but not limited to, bright/dim lights, dust/pollen, intense noise, vibration, fumes/noxious odors, toxic/caustic chemicals, electrical shock, heights of 70 feet or more, disease/pathogens, traffic, and moving machinery.
