Technician I

The essential function of this position within the organization is to assist in the operations of daily job tasks. The position is responsible for assigned equipment and vehicles. The position works under general supervision according to some procedures. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assists with miscellaneous projects as directed, such as patching roads, clearing debris, lawn maintenance, maintaining right of ways, or building and maintaining ditches and cross drains. Secures and partitions off work areas with traffic signs, cones, and/or barricades. Operate grounds equipment such as zero turns, weed eaters, edger, and hand tools to maintain sidewalks, holding ponds and Right-of-Ways. Operate various saws to clear trees and limbs from obstructing traffic. Performs maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles. Operates pneumatic tools such as jackhammers or saws to complete tasks as breaking up concrete or blacktop or cutting pipe Maintains required paperwork and logs in compliance with departmental rules and regulations Attends staff and safety meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and technical or professional classes or seminars to improve technical or professional skills. Other duties may be assigned, as required. Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma, or its equivalent. Must be proficient in the use of computers and other general office equipment. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's license, CDL license desirable. Must be willing to work overtime and be placed on-call when necessary and for emergency situations. Most work is performed generally outdoors with partial time indoors. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Position requires the operation of a county vehicle and various equipment, machinery and hand tools.

Knowledge of maintenance and upkeep of all equipment. Knowledge of safety practices, procedures and equipment used. Ability to communicate both orally and in written form. Ability to work emergency duty during non-scheduled work hours. Ability to distinguish between different shades of color. Ability to interact with people in a courteous, professional manner.
