Position Summary The Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Laborer performs temporary traffic control operations on roadway construction projects. This position helps maintain safe and efficient traffic flow through active work zones while protecting workers, motorists, and the public. The MOT Laborer performs a variety of duties related to highway maintenance, work zone setup, lane closures, detours, equipment delivery, traffic control device installation, and required daily reporting. All work must be performed in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Set up, install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices, work zone signs, lights, cones, barricades, and related equipment. Set up and maintain Maintenance of Traffic activities, including detours and lane closures. Help maintain safe and efficient movement of traffic through roadway construction work zones. Load and unload traffic control equipment into and out of company trucks. Deliver and pick up equipment from customer jobsites. Coordinate services with onsite client representatives or public officials, as required. Coordinate the activities of traffic control laborers to help ensure compliance with MOT guidelines. Identify existing work zone conditions and make recommendations regarding traffic maintenance procedures. Complete daily paperwork, work reports, and other documentation required by the supervisor. Operate a company vehicle when approved and maintain company Motor Vehicle Record standards. Follow all company safety policies and applicable temporary traffic control requirements. Perform other assigned duties to support team and project needs. Desired Qualifications Minimum of two years of experience in Maintenance of Traffic, temporary traffic control, road construction, highway maintenance, or a related construction industry. High school diploma or GED preferred. Advanced MOT Certification preferred. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of traffic control devices, work zones, lane closures, detours, and highway safety procedures is preferred. Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a roadway construction team. Requirements Valid driver's license required for approved drivers. Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations required for employees operating company vehicles. Successfully complete an initial drug screening and background check. Continue to meet company standards regarding criminal background, driving record, and controlled substance/drug testing following employment. Able to work safely around moving vehicles, roadway traffic, heavy construction equipment, and active work zones. Able to work a flexible schedule, including changing shifts, overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays when required. Able to work safely outdoors in all weather conditions and other adverse environmental conditions. Physical Requirements Qualified applicants must be capable of performing repeated physical effort throughout the workday, including: Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Walking on uneven and varying ground surfaces. Frequently lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds. Loading and unloading equipment from company trucks. Working from elevated platforms, ladders, or truck beds, when required. Driving for extended periods of time, when assigned and approved. Using hand tools and power tools safely. Operating keyboards, smartphones, and other required technology. Repetitively using arms, legs, and hands to complete job duties. Remaining alert and aware of machinery, equipment, coworkers, construction activity, and moving traffic. Employees must have sufficient vision to observe moving vehicles, read traffic control signs, understand construction plans, and review written instructions and reports. Employees must also have sufficient hearing to recognize approaching vehicles, respond to audible commands, and communicate in person or by telephone.
